Why are people hating on Nadal?

OP it's very simple. It's jealousy. Nadal upset the status quo and continues to do so.

However it does depend on what forum you go on. Other forums are pro Nadal. Nadal is the most popular player on social media so read into that what you will.
Can you give examples of these forums? Also, please show us a reliable source for you social media fact.

People hate on Nadal because it’s just a very common side effect of being a Federer’s fan.
This definitely works both ways: hating on Fed is a "very common side effect" of being Nadal's fan. You can see several of them on this board, every day, every hour, interjecting Fed hate into otherwise trivial threads. Hilariously entertaining but illustrative of my point.

It's bizzaro world right now.

Federer fanboys are making the same arguments that Djokovic fanboys used to make. Djokovic fanboys are now making the same arguments that Nadal fanboys used to make. And Nadal fanboys sound like Federer fanboys used to sound.

Dogs and cats living together! Mass hysteria!!!

Nicely observed.

I think a whole lot of drama could be avoided if people just admitted their fanboyism / girlism at the gate, owned it, and then proved their intelligence / regard for the game by giving credit to other players where / when it is due.

It seems so simple but a bridge too far for many of us, unfortunately.

I'm a massive Rafa fan, but I loved tennis long before he came along, so it has never been an issue for me to acknowledge superlative play when it happens, regardless of the player.

I think a lot of people on here might have come to tennis through their affection or interest in one player without necessarily having played tennis, or enjoyed the game more broadly. Their conduit to watching / talking tennis and the sole source of their enjoyment of the game came via the fortunes of their favourite player (be that Federer, Nadal or Djokovic). And that sole source of attachment creates some weirdness and is the catalyst for the desire to never see that player's importance or achievements eclipsed in their minds. Perhaps because they view the player as essentially "bigger than the game".

And if they start with that mindset, a forum like this can essentially radicalize them further as they get antagonized, and in turn antagonize others.

So, since you have reached the promised land and are able to look at the events that unfolded and take them for what they are you are able to criticize Nadal for his massive abuse of the rules?

Can't advertise other forums on here obviously! It's against the Ts and C's.

As for social media look at Nadals Facebook and twitter followers compared to Federer.

Nadal is very popular not sure why that's such a big deal.

They are worried that Nadal could catch or overtake Federer's major tally. Personally, it wouldn't bother me if Nadal never caught Federer's tally, yet the anti-Nadal fanatics are terrified.
Nope, his fans aren't worried because Nadal is a little late to catch Federer slam tally since he's in his 30s. Keep in mind Nadal's target was 17 a few years ago, but now the target is 19. Federer could win more slams to keep Nadal at bay. Nadal is also too far behind Federer in other achievements like weeks #1 and WTF.

And Federer isn't worry either.

In every camp there are a few living vicariously and projecting. They are vehemently accusing eachother of being the problem, which largely is the problem.

They hate him because he defeated Federer so regularly -especially in the slams, which has put a huge question mark over Roger's alleged Greatest of all Time status.

It really is as simple as that.

Yeah. I think they call it something, like...rivalry? That spawns disdain for anyone who isn't their idol.

Are you saying categorically that Rafa will not beat or even catch Federer's major tally? It looks like that's what you said.

It's a big pronouncement to make.......

Just want to get you "On mic" to confirm this one.

I agree with Fed's fans that Rafa won't catch him, . but what do his fanboys think?. . : )

He no definitely not.

In the midst of your arbitrary Fed-hater 'head count' you might be incorrectly lumping in "fans of the sport of tennis" who take delight in mocking and lampooning fanboys/fangirls in general with the died-in-the-wool nadaltards.

By fanboy/fangirl I mean those zealots who point the finger at others (in all their 24-carat hypocrisy) while in the next breath posting one "my favourite male idol's better than your favourite male idol!" post after another. . Is THAT hillariously entertaining? . Not exactly. .

Do we have any fanboys here? . ...any fangirls? . . ....how about fanhomophrodites?

It's because Nadal kept beating Federer's ass from 2008 onwards in slams, nearly for a whole freaking decade and one of those wins came at Wimbledon 2008, at Federer's home turf which the Federer fans are still salty af over.

The so called "GOAT, most talented player evah " was put in his place by the "dirt moonballer". :D

Simple.

It's mental illness. On both sides

Think HOW LONG and how much of their lives have been spent here debating the same conversations

Does it really matter?

It's severe obsession, when the outcome of a sporting event leads you to spending most your time sniping anonymous people on the internet like a child and actually ruins your day, that's something that needs professional help

I should know. I spent a decade on another forum doing this very thing. Got so depressed and bullied i almost offed myself. Then I got out and I never felt happier

A bigger waste of life you'll not see outside of arguments like this.

Get out. That's my advice

RG 2008 to AO 2014 is not a whole freaking decade, as you eloquently put it. It's six seasons. Which is still a substantial amount of time though, no doubt about it.

Some Fed fans are just terrified Nadal might equal (or even surpass) Federer's slam count. Derision and hate are common ways to deal with fear.

This is actually true of some of them. I recall a post from one saying something along the lines that Nadal is a like a dog chasing the car, he is just persistent and annoying and doesn't know when to stop chasing. :)

Any player that has a bad back, like Federer, needs to take stuff like steroids, which is banned. It's simple.

We have nadals medical records signed by a real doc that he says is true. Im sure your correct, agassi got to take cortizone every match, not sure why a steroid isnt a steroid yet placebo's are peds according to wada

Because if you are injured a steroid merely allows you to compete, and it is not a PED. If it's banned, don't take it without a TUE. It is really simple.

Nadal gets hate for 2 reasons:

1) TTW is dominated by Fed fans, some long time legit fans but equally or more legions of bandwagon tools. Lots of insecure trolling/trash talking of Nadal naturally results.

2) Nadal does some really really annoying things to bring hate on himself: His brutal OCD time wasting which many view as cheating, his constant complaining about certain tour conditions/traditions and his officiating drama nonsense from '15/16.

Personally I find his matches brutal to watch because its one half exciting action movie, one half watching watching a Chinese water torture routine. But he's a great, exciting player when the balls in play so I'll watch his big matches on DVR fast forwarding thru the brutal sideshow. In the end #1 above is why he gets the most hate here.

It’s about Nadal making Federer cry in 2009. That trophy ceremony stabbed them in heart so hard, it became their mission to vilify Nadal at every turn. You can easily spot the most affected ones through the tone of their posts.

Federer has only 4 sane and intelligent fans in TTW. The rest are .......:)

SF Win Juan Martín Del Potro 3–6, 7–6(7–2), 2–6, 6–1, 6–4 2009 french semi, your guy would of won it that year, salt is understandable. Delpo grew up on clay and missed his only chance at the biggest title, third world people respect clay the most.

2009 was Fed's only french open wasnt it? Hindsight, it was a good one.

You don’t know if Juan would have beaten Söderling in the final. There’s no salt at all. When Juan came on the scene, I never expected him to win a slam. When he won 1, I was shocked. He doesn’t need to win anything to be my favorite player. Unlike you, I don’t live vicariously through other people’s achievements.

Federer won FO 2009 because he was the best player in the tournament. Again, unlike you, I don’t try to find excuses why my favorite player lost.

Anyway, my post was about AO 2009 and clearly, you are one of the ”affected” ones.

This post made me LOL. :D

Please, double-check your calculations. ;)
