Why can't ESPN ever get it right? It's really not that hard.

Like last week, ESPN is showing the second men's semifinal tonight at the Rogers Cup BEFORE they show the first semifinal, which took place this afternoon. They know they will be broadcasting the first semi later between Federer and Stepanek, so why can't the commentators just keep their mouths shut and not spill the beans on who won the first semi? It is really that hard not to talk about the results when you haven't shown it yet? It absolutely ruins it by telling us who won and what the score was and also to show highlights of the match BEFORE you broadcast the match!! I mean isn't that just common sense to keep quiet?

Also, if the second semi is going to be shown on tape delay anyway (as it is right now), why not just show the first semi from this afternoon first so that they wouldn't have to resist the urge of revealing the results of the first semi before the second semi even starts? I mean, doesn't it make a lot more sense to show the first one first and the second one second?

Oh, and to add insult to injury, when they came back from commerical after the first 3 games of the Nadal-Djokovic match, all of a sudden it was in the 8th game of the 1st set. They never said anything about moving forward in the match. I guess ESPN was just hoping that we wouldn't notice that they skipped the tape 4 whole games??

Well, perhaps the commentators are unaware of the t.v. scheduling ESPN2 has for matches today. The commentating on the first match won't be live, much like any of the matches.

It's the weekend, how come they can play live tennis during the week while most of us are working, but they can't put on live tennis on Saturday when I (we) can watch it as it happens.

I wasn't paying close enough attention, I didn't even notice the game jump.

bunch of knuckleheads. we talked about the idiocy of today earlier this morning when we were all trying to figure out what the deal was for the semis on tv. a tape delay is bad enough. but a poorly executed tape delay . . . well, that sh*t just ain't right.

The commentators are very well aware of the T.V. scheduling. The same commentators have been telling us all day yesterday that they will show the first semi between Federer and Stepanek later tonight after they show the Nadal-Djokovic semi.

You mean you didn't notice it went from 1-2 before the commercial to 3-4 after the commercial in the 1st set?

Man this whole tournament the coverage has been pretty much garbage. I don't know why espn 2 can't show the live tennis that was on today between Federer and Stepanek. I guess Nascar is more important! Flippin Rednecks!

In any other case I'd be pissed, but it's Federer vs Stepanek...we all knew what the result would be even without some commentator having to tell us.

of all the comments above you, everyone managed to talk about the matches and coverage at length without any spoiling....

...then YOU came along and spoiled it all for anyone that has not watched the matches....

They are showing Federer/Stepanek now (10:50 EST) in lieu of the Sharapova/Petrova match.

Would you guys rather we didn't see any tennis at all? They showed us the best match-up. Of course, it would be great if we could see both of them live, but unless it is on the Tennis Channel, I think it would be wishful thinking.
