Why did Murray and Djokovic "boycott" Fedal (aka Laver) cup?

I was expecting Murray and Djokovic to show up to demonstrate their support for the inaugural edition of the iconic tournament - the Fedal cup (AKA Laver cup). I know they are injured, but wonder if they can't even sit on the sidelines to clap and show appreciation for team Europe?

Both are out with injuries and not even planning to play the remainder of the tour year. Why on earth would they show up to play at some cheese exo with injuries serious enough they arent even playing real tournaments?

You think they don't have better $h1+ to do? Honestly, this forum is filled with hardcore tennis fans and half of them didn't even bother to toss it on the tube.

If you can't play, nothing is stopping you from at least cheerleading, highfiving, fistpumping and shirt ripping.

Ray and Djok's slams should be given to more deserving young promising, respectful of their elders and the sport, hardworking players like Nick and Z to give them a fresh new start.

Simple. They didn't show up because that's 3 days out of the few weeks they get to spend with their families before they need to start training again. Novak has a newborn, too, so boarding a plane to just go morally support his rivals would be stressful for both the baby, him, and Jelena.

None of the injured players were there. Did anyone see Nishikori or Stan or Raonic either? They weren't there because they are all busy trying to get fit enough to play serious tournaments in the new season!

It’s hard to boycott or decline something you never invited to in the first place.
Novak was invited, but declined since he wanted to take the rest of the season off. No tennis at all. Federer himself confirmed this.

As for Murray, I never heard anything about him declining the chance to play.

First four europeans in the ranking get in automaticaly. They have lifes outside tennis and now is the best time to focus on that

No invitation needed for Murray, he would've been qualified automatically due to his ranking.

He's injured, end thread.

Or maybe they wanna spend time with their famillies in their off time now that they are injured.

It was an exho btw, a promotion event. Nothing too serious.

Murray didn't boycott. He said weeks ago that he's out for almost the entire next year due to hip problems. I don't know what happened with Djokovic, but hasn't he been out with shoulder problems?

Best thread ever.

I think it's a shame, watching Murray and Djokovic play doubles together would have been really exciting.

At least I'd get to see Murray winning with Djokovic on the court. I'm liking this idea. Maybe you're seeing a horror show, but I'm envisioning a superhero movie.

Murray plants his feet reversing the earth's spin for a moment, whilst Djokovic gets to a ball behind him and 10 feet away, stretching credulity to breaking point.

'Thunder Thighs and Stretch'

maybe a porno.

They were too busy partying with sureshs in Vegas.

I assume because they are staunch unionists and didn't want to participate in this sham tournament that is taking money right out of their fellow union members hands

The players in tennis don’t have a union, it the Association of Tennis Professionals. Not union. Once again, you can’t boycott or decline something you never invited to in the first place.

Djokovic has been out with an elbow injury. He made it clear that he wouldn't be available after he closed down his season following Wimbledon. Murray hasn't yet made it official but he has been withdrawing from most events and almost certainly won't play any more ATP events this season (apart from a friendly exho he intends to play with Federer in Glasgow this November).

Thankfully the EU does not equal = Europe otherwise Federer would have to play for Team World!
That's very true. But don't pretend that there there didn't use to be a time when on extremely stormy weather that made communications impossible between the British Isles and the "mainland", English broadcasters used to describe the event as "Europe is again isolated". :)

Even if healthy Djokovic wouldn't participate , and he told that to LC organizer before he ended his season in injury

But I guess trolls need to troll

Geographical facts cannot be denied no matter how much a few isolationist Brits might like to fantasise!
