Why did my iPhone 6 storage suddenly free up space?

I have an iPhone 6, 64GB memory
It was running out of space with only about 500MB of space left.
Suddenly the other day I checked and it said it had 25GB of free memory and was using only 30GB of space.
None of my photos or videos have disappeared, they're still on my phone. Nothing that was on my phone has been moved to iCloud or Dropbox.
I didn't do anything to manually free up space, so what the heck happened to suddenly free up lots of storage on my iPhone?

Did you by any chance power down your phone and then restart it ?

If you are sure you haven't lost any data then it could be browser cache or some such temporary storage that got cleared. (Although 25 GB is a lot for cache but who knows what your default settings are.)

When you were running out of space, you should have done a check on storage to see how much space is being consumed by which app, so you would know what has changed. Maybe right now you should note down the space distribution, so if you run out again, you can compare.

I was actually thinking about trying to get paid to shill for things on here or elsewhere on the internet.
I'd have absolutely no problem with making my normal posts, but also constantly mentioning how good a particular coffee machine or political ideology is.

I've been told it probably is the cache clearing itself but agree 25GB seems a lot to free up.
I didn't power down or restart the phone at any time
