WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME LEYLAH FERNANDEZ WAS THAT GOOD

The other thing that we have yet to see yet is that oftentimes players on the WTA have a breakout type of year and then get figured out shortly after. Personally, I think Leylah's shot selection at times is kind of bad. Once her patterns are figured out a bit more, she may struggle more in the bigger matches. Of course I could also be completely wrong, but I don't think she deserves the hype just yet.
agreed.

Yes, it's improvisation because of poor footwork.
It’s more her style of play. She likes to dictate by taking the ball early so she hugs the baseline. Balls that land deep she basically has to half-volley in a crouching position, because it’s really difficult to hit those any other way.

In the meanwhile some old farts think she's not good enough and backslapping each other because she missed a volley!

A group of suit-clad, middle-aged men and women sit around a long oval table, staring dozily at the buffet of graphs and diagrams of a PowerPoint presentation.

Daniel Andrade: "And as you can see, because of our creative multi-platform marketing strategy, this is why our revenue in Talk Tennis Holdings® can be expected to increase by a whopping 6.3 per cent through the next quarter."

Suddenly, a man, small but visible droplets of sweat running down his face, barges through the dour into the conference room.

Daniel Andrade: "What!? Can't you see I'm in the middle of my presentation here?"
Sweaty man: "Boss needs to relay an urgent message to you."
Andrade: "What can be this important to interrupt this talk on how the creative use of suresh imagery can increase sales by orders of magnitude?"

The sweaty man hands Andrade a tiny wrinkled paper note. Andrade opens it and silently reads the message: "Leylah Fernandez really is that good."

Tell that to Hingis. At the end of the day, there's always a better way to take a half volley. Leylah's movement comes from poor anticipation and a delayed reaction time, despite wanting to play the close game.
