I think technology killed his game (in addition to age). Pete's s&v style was effective, but the volleys were off mostly flat balls (for example, Agassi's return was hard, but flat). Once extreme spin was introduced into the game, along with slower courts, Pete was at a point in his career where he couldn't retool. The s&v strategy also diminished right along with him. Pete was the best of the flip-phones...and then came the iPhone.

Petros ... did you watch the Wimbledon final this year? The most successful player at Wimbledon played nearly 5 hours of grinding clay court tennis on grass. I just can't see Pete play that kind of tennis anywhere. But who knows, perhaps the Emperor of grass would have found a way
