Why did so many Fed fans resent Djokovic between 2014-16?

I'm only asking 'cos when I think back to that period I distinctly recall a large number of Federer fans stating that he was too old to get past a close to peak Djokovic in best of 5 matches and how Novak was even mean for beating up on a grandpa(oh yes they did :D) so if this was the case, why the resentment? I mean if y'all weren't expecting Roger to beat him due to his age then why did it bother some of you so much when he didn't and then compel you to say such nasty things about the Nolester afterwards? :( I know the obvious answer many of you will give is that Novak was really the only one at that time preventing him from adding to his slam tally but at that stage he was still three clear of Nadal in the slam race when the Spaniard looked to be heading towards the end of the road so that answer doesn't really make sense to me. I guess therefore the only other thing I can ascribe it to, and may God strike me down for even suggesting such a notion, is that you RF fans are a greedy bunch that just wanted to see your beloved hero holding aloft more and more GS trophies despite him already having 17 of them!

Thoughts s'il vous plait. :)

Not Djokovic, but his fans. Mostly it's because we told you that Djokovic will decline once and be seen as less great too, but you refused to listen like children and went all arrogant and cocky.

Nope, it was definitely Djokovic as well. Some of the things said about him at that time were truly awful. :(

Ok, if it was about Djokovic, what were you offended then? What gives you the right that you are offended in Nole's behalf? Your arrogance that you think you are some sort spokesman from Djokovic.

When Djokovic says that he is offended, I will apologize to him and not to you lol. But Djokovic knows this is just fan talk, so he won't be offended.

Dont think i would call It greed:). But when It got to 2015/2016 and he was trying sooo hard to win another one, and Djokovic stopped him time after time:mad:. You just wanted him to have that last slam.

At the time Nadal didnt look like a threat, and both bookies and people on the forum thought It was way more likely for Djoko to be a threat for the slam rec.

In the end he was the only one preventing Fed from slams, so It was easy to not like him. Then you had posters like 5555 and Djokerer which didnt help:eek:. I like him a lot more now:cool:

He was kind enough to let Murray win two slams and Wawrinka three. Didn't let Federer win even one, just bad behaviour all round.
I can't imagine you were feeling too great after the '16 Rome final either. :D Novak's nothing if not extremely benevolent at times. :p

Probably because of him being in such immense form and fast approaching Feds slam record, while denying fed winning slams aswell

Fed denied himself in that match. HE DESERVED THE HATE
Thank god he finally stopped using chip return and slicing since 2017. Fed can be pretty stubborn sometimes looking for shortcuts. The answer was simple, just hit backhands all day long, he said he finally does it.

Fed camp said that now Fed hits backhands for an 1-2hours before every practice.

Djokovic defeated him in W15, USO 15, WTF 15 and AO 16. Given how good Fed' level was during that stretch, nobody could have defeated him there except Novak. So that makes 4 straight big events in a row Djoker cost him including 3 Slams. That's equivalent to Andy Murray's entire career..

My dislike for Djokovic is from 11 years ago so it doesnt have anything to do with him beating Federer in 2015..Very unlikeable guy plus his game is so boring

Not to mention all those weeks nr.1 and year end nr.1.

I was extremely disappointed after W15 and USO 15 losses. His form was really good. Deserved a Slam. 2014 W loss doesn't bother me that much. He was ok but nothing special.

We all were, it was painful. But because of those losses AO 17 tasted so sweet. And he won 3 more and was nr.1, so maybe life is fair, we were rewarded for our suffering.

Do all Fed fans hate him? Read in one book a guy chatting to some Fed fans after Wimbledon 14 and said they seemed fairly calm. One said "Novak's OK, he's stopping Nadal getting close." So I don't think the feeling is universal.

I agree with the person who said about fans though. The Djoko posters on here are generally great but his little gaggle of paranoid fans on Twitter do his cause no favours at all.

I didn't like his classless parents. It was immature when his mother said "the king(Federer) is dead" after her son beat an out of form Federer. And his father wishes Federer to retire.

Pretty sure it was nothing to with Slam race for Fed fans. It looked definitely over in 2015-16. All Fed fans wanted is #18. They wanted see him to lift Slam trophy for the one last time. Also he put a lot effort post 2013 to fulfill his goal of winning Slam again. Changed the racket, hired Edberg, changed tactics, reinvented his game. 3 Slam finals, 3 Slam semis, 3 Masters, 2 WTF finals, 11 titles from 21 finals in two years. This much effort surely deserved a Slam. But The only man standing in his way was Djoker. He was better than everyone else. So no wonder Fed fans got bitter as time was running out. His window of opportunity was closing fast with every defeat. After his W16 loss I was almost sure #18 would NEVER happen.

Many believe he was far inferior than his 2011 version and had much more to show for it.
I can't see "far" inferior. Different for sure tho. He played more Fed/aggressive-like in 2011. I think Fed fans just enjoy/respect that more than Djoker's balanced mode.

He was weirdly confident playing against Federer. I was a Federer worshipper during that period and that thing touched my nerve the most.

Federer was very nervous against him and that I didn't like at all because he was supremely confident against others. AO 16 SF was absolutely untolerable at times.

Plus, I kinda knew he would not be defeated no matter how close the things were.

Paraphrase this as you want.

Personally, I got tired of the robotic lock down mode of the Ultron. It became a very scientific, error-free tennis which I personally didn't like at all. Federer played so well in both Wimbledon and USO, but couldn't bring his best level when it mattered the most. "Breakpointerer" stems from USO15 final. Federer also outplayed Djokovic on occasions in BO3 but struggled with his mentality in those slam finals.

You are one to talk lol, you were always criticizing Nada's competition.
That makes zero sense. He's competed in the same era as Federer and Djokovic and therefore has roughly equivalent competition. Also it has nothing to do with what I said.

lol we needed an entire thread of this? I forgot OP was always whining about fed fans and making it seem like the novak fanbase were completely innocent.

I sort of agree with everything you said.

Jeez, this place appears to have a real problem with the idea of wanting a player to win! We’ve apparently all got to be tennis fans above all else and all that crap.

Here’s what I think. I don’t like Djokovic or Nadals playing style. And I certainly think Djokovic is a bit of a knob to be honest (the heart crap, the holier than thou peace and love ******** alongside manic shirt ripping - it’s just what the f are you doing man? You know people are watching right?)

But they won loads, which I can at least respect. I just want Federer, who is the only reason I really enjoy watching tennis, to turn it on when he plays. And that means winning. And I don’t really care if that’s not ok with everyone else.

You got an honest answer though and I think it was a fair question.

I'll never forget the look on Djoker's face before the 2015W final when he was standing in front of Fed in the tunnel waiting to be announced first. He was like calmly in zen mode, eyes closed, just in the zone and full of confidence. Fed looked slightly nervous (perhaps only in comparison). Watching I felt like there was no way Djoker was laying an egg in that match.
