For two main reasons.
The big one, Schwartzman leads the H2H 1-0, this match was the quarterfinal which i consider deep stage of the tournament. Sure its just one win but as we can see el Diego proved is superiority by knocking new-crowned grand slam champ in quarterfinals.
The next big point, Thiem vultured his RG finals just by being in Djokovic half while Schwartzman had to face peak Nadal in three of his last four French Open apperances. All three times he generally did better against Nadal than Thiem did when he ended up facing peak Nadal himself in 2017-19.
In the end, it’s frankly not all that close. Dominic might be better in smaller clay court tournaments (even this is arguable) but Diego has proven his worth against him in the big one.
