Why do people prestretch poly, especially soft ones?

For NG it's done in order to remove kinks, but for poly?

for all the people that want the comfort of gut and the spin of poly, i recommend hybrid of VCT 16g /revolve 17g at appropriate low tension. I was using gut/poly at 50/47 but I wasnt getting enough bite so I switched to VCT hybrid initially at 44/42 but then went down and finally settled at 38/36. Also, don’t forget to prestretch ur poly, esp VCT as it is such a soft poly. Revolve is quite similar to isospeed cream with the super slick coating but cream produces more of a metallic response whereas revolve feels rubbery which I enjoy more.

Helps reduce tension loss I think. Soft polys can lose it quicker than there firmer counterparts from experience. I’m no expert and think that longer playability and consistency of contact is better when prestretched. I use Kirschbaum Max Power Rough and that has excellent tension maintenance. It’s prestretched and is firmer.

I guessed that, but on the other hand I don't want my Mayami strings firmer...

For me also depends on the frame - I use a Prince Tour 100P which is pretty plush so find a firmer poly a good match. The Kirschbaum has excellent feel - v close to Alu Power at half the cost - and marries nicely. The pre stretching definitely works for that string as maintains tension unbelievably well. When it does start to go the difference is minimal and still very playable.
