WHY DO THE SPECTATORS BOO A LOT IN AO 22 ?

Been watching some different matches, and I often hear the spectators boo every so often. Which kind of crowd boo ? They did it in the Kokkinakis match, and in the Kyrgios match too and in other match (I can't remember which players played). Why do they boo ?

They had been practicing for Novak.

That new celebration is so ridiculous and ruins the atmosphere and you know its a bunch of 15 year old eshays thinking they are funny or wanting attention

They're booing because Novak is no there, and now their tickets became less valuable.

Imagine you spent your hard earned money to watch Novak, and you get to watch some mug show by Gravinboginagis instead.
Horrible thought!

They apparently are frustrated that the best player on this planet doesn't participate.

serious question: is there a video of the booing a lot?

Watch the last Kyrgios match. They even booed when Kyrgios was interviewed. Apparently it's not offending him... So maybe Checkmate is correct... it's not a boo but something else... If anyone have any other explanation please chime in.

Edit: accidental's reply above confirmed Checkmate :

I started to doubt it if it's really Ronaldo's Siuu chant. I mean, why do that in the first round. Kyrgios was perplexed when he arrived at the stadium greeted by boo. Liam as well. Kyrgios felt uncomfortable throughout the match with the constant boos.

I think the crowd boo because they're not happy about something. But some people interpret it as Siuuu.

"Imagine you spent your hard-earned money to watch Novak waste it in frivolous lawsuits and see him try to get the Australian people to pick up the tab for his high-priced legal team..."

Yes, you raise a valid point.

I once bought tickets for the second Madrid semi (2011). Fedal's half of the draw had been playing second the whole tournament, so I expected to see them.

They flipped the schedule in the semis and I got to see Djokovic - Bellucci instead.

If it was just during the Kyrgios and Murray matches I'd guess it was just a bunch of people who were there then, as weren't those matches on one after the other on the same court?

If it's more widespread than that maybe it's related to the fact that they're wearing masks? :-D Results in less coating of the inside of it with your own spit?

Nick Kyrgios was being booed when he was being interviewed after his 1st round match on Tuesday evening Australia time. Nick said it was something to do with a soccer player they do this to.
I hope it’s not a Brandon moment,

Because this is the level in 2022 at AO. What do you expect?

Not sure why it had to do with Cristiano's "Siu!!!" this AO; (the real) football is not a popular sport in Australia as far as I know.

LOL at the cultural misunderstanding this thread is built upon, and the posters not reading the correct answers provided in the thread itself, choosing to continue being ignorant of the cheer (not jeer). Says a lot about discussions in societies across the globe today. Amazed we can solve any problem.
Exactly.... Just shows the kind of selective reading that goes on currently... Answer was provided in the first reply itself to the OP

Aussie’s by far are the most boisterous fans. On court 3 they pretty much get away with whatever. And I love it.

Probably one of the best comments I've read on TTW in some time. Objective and well written.
