Why Do You Like Nadal and/or Federer?

I have to disagree with your assessment of Nadal's game. For all the fuss around his biceps, he does have a variety of shots and strategic thinking. He is strong sure but he is not a mindless ball basher and he can mix it up pretty well when needed. The idea that he could have played 3 Wimbledon finals if he was a "hitting brute" without finesse is just absurd and IMO indefensible. Ball bashers with no brain do not have consistent high results on grass, you need to construct your points there, have good skills at net (and/or have a lethal first serve).

We all know you are a fan of Nadal so you don't need to state if you agree or not. The poster has stated his opinions on the issue. Leave it be.

I totally do respect Nadal, and I think that he is a good example to the juniors today because he shows grit and his personality is just to never give up, I think everyone can take a page out from Nadal's book.

However my favorite has got to be Federer, I know how people say that you actually have to watch Federer live to experience the full potential of his tennis, but just watching him on tv is enough, the way he dances around the court, his cat like reflexes make him a lot more pleasing to my eyes.

I can reply to an opinion if I think it's shocking. I have no problem with the like/dislike statements but I did react to someone describing Rafa's style as "sheer brutality" as it doesn't seem accurate to me. + you can ignore my opinion or refute it but you have 0 prerogative on this board to tell me what to do or not.

In the positive spirit of this thread, I will choose to leave you as you are. Good luck with changing people's opinion.

I like the last one!!!!! I always say people is difference to those guys and now I will say "Good luck with changing people's opinion" instread. Thanks,

being spanish myself I know I should go for nadal, however I do enjoy watching federer the most. So its fed for me

1. RAFA is humble

2. RAFA wants to win every point

3. RAFA makes the most spectacular shots in the world and puts 20% more revolutions on the ball than any player in the world

4. RAFA has the game to win all 4 slams in the same year

5. Agassi was always my favorite player and now RAFA is better than him

Nadal over Fed I'd say.
He is young and certainly has a spark about him. Although Fed may be older and more "mature" it takes much of that to be where Rafa is.
He is not lazy and does not give up on any point until it is completely over. He is willing to rally forever just to get one point.
Lastly. His the only player that Fed really seems to have a problem with

Oh and also yesterday or the day before when it was over 40 degrees here in Melbourne he still was outside practising. and he was about the only one out there.

Federer

Like: effortless brilliancy, elegance, fluidity, mix of classic and modern motion, 1 hbh, small racket, variety of shots, the dare slice, the way he sees the ball through contact, his appreciation of tennis history, very good volleyer by today's standards, the ability to raise the level of his game when facing break points and on tiebreaks, great understanding of the game and opponents flaws, great anticipation, he can read poor technique players -Roddick- like a book.

Dislike: stubbornness to work in improving aspects of his game like backhand, more aggressive return game, non use of drop shot, net game has declined over the years. Maybe he doesn't want to risk messing things up, but I wished he tried harder earlier to adapt to several threats like Nadals high topspin fh to his bh maybe by trying a more extreme grip for certain shots. The way he seems to loose concentration almost get bored often en 2nd sets after dominating the 1st. The handbag, the blazers, the perfumes and all that crap is very annoying. His arrogance when he says, "I played great", etc. I wish he was a little bit more modest. I just think he should let other people comment on his brilliancy.

Nadal

Like: mental fortitude, ability to hit winners from awkward positions, insane topspin, never give up attitude. Drive to continue improving and adapting to new conditions (grass, hard courts). Great physical endurance, speed.

Dislike: annoying time wasting routines, excessive bouncing, butt picking, often interrupting opponents' serve, delaying at the start the match by making the umpire and opponent wait at the net while he arranges his bottles and then sprinting right after, ridiculous outfits, excessive shot celebrations. Ugly tennis (but very effective), very consuming, hate the reverse forehand as a standard fh, condescending humbleness at interviews.

I'm not a Federer fan, but only a blind man would deny the talent he has. The guy has every shot in the book and has too many weapons in his arsenal. He is for me already the GOAT, I don't care if the slam-count stops at 13.

Nadal athleticism is something I haven't seen on any tennis player, lightning fast speed and amazing footwork. The most insane passing shots I've ever seen, but the best thing is the sheer detemination to win.

I support Nadal more and I hope both guys can compete at a high level for many more years to come.

Very interesting analysis but I have never seen Nadal interrupt opponents' serve. What do you mean by that? Also how can humbleness be condescending? You condescend when you feel superior to other people (it seems to me like it is the opposite of humbleness)

Things I like about Nadal
- Intense
- Emotional
- Humble
- Topspin Forehand
- Always motivated
- Beats Federer a lot
- Superior conditioning
- Writes blogs and answers questions
- Always stays focused

So you dislike Federer.
You don't have to understand it that way. Federer has been the dominant player for a few years and noone has been able to consistently challenge him (in slams). It's nice that someone came up that could push Fed and force him to try and raise his game even more.

I've seen him several times put his hand up to delay his opponents serve for no apparent reason. It seemed to me that it was a deliberate attempt to slow down the opponent's pace. I don't recall who it was but I've seen it happen on more than one occasion. Although I will say that he seems to slowly addressing the delay issues. I guess it has a lot to do with the fact that his confidence has grown so much.

On the condescending issue I mean that his humbleness seems somewhat fake to me. I think he's a nice guy, but I also think that he has this killer instinct on court that when you hear him laud Federer so much it just strikes me as disingenuous, given his dominance over him. Of course, I could be completely wrong about it in which case I would say he's the nicest tennis player and put it on the "like" column, but for whatever reason I don't buy it.

I am not trying to change anyone's opinion, I'm just exercising my right to express mine.

Yet after the first 49 post in this thread YOU are the first one to quote somebody and disagree. There will always be a difference of opinion but you just can't leave that alone.
