Fed "says" he's open to criticism, but then he seems to listen to his team most of all. There is a lot of criticism here and he seems to selectively ignore it ....on purpose.

That's stupid, cause the Fed slice may be the most underrated shot in the game. Not that people don't rate it high, but generally I think people hugely underestimate how important the shot is for him.

It makes it harder to attack him. It gives him so much control over the pace at which points happen, which becomes more important as your movement and your ability to take every ball quickly and on the rise without giving up space gets worse.

Great slice and great forehand, no matter how slow you are, is just a nasty combination cause it makes the backhand very hard to attack effectively, while the forehand may just counter you and take over the initiative in the rally. The slice is why he could toy with Roddick and basically do whatever the hell he wanted.

Similarly, the slice is why he had trouble with Nadal. It didn't work vs Nadal, cause he had so much movement and such topspin that Fed wasn't okay with playing longer points and so he didn't really have an effective way to defend his backhand side vs Nadal, which is why he struggled.

I also feel that too many underrate Fed's slice. It's not his slice, as a shot alone, that's noteworthy. It's HOW Fed uses it. In the hands of a shotmaker like Fed, it's aboslutely deadly. Your example of it's effect against Roddick and Nadal is perfect on both counts (I know you're a huge Roddick fan . I like him too. I just like Fedr more . )
