Why Federer has no chance at USO 2020

OOPS!!!

My bad - I just saw he's not playing cause he has a leg problem or something.

Mods please delete.
(Unless you want to leave it up cause the post is technically accurate and isn't about Srdan or COVID (yet))

Federer if he played, he has a great chance to win. Novak is very rusty and he's not even 60% of his normal play. and Thiem has no chance against roger on this very quick hard courts

I kind of think if Federer was healthy, this would probably be a good shot for him to get another slam. Djokovic had COVID, I'm pretty sure I caught it as well, and one of the symptoms is muscle pain. And I'll tell you something else, you think you've recovered and it comes back like a month later. Very weird virus this is.

You should take the covid test and stop speculating about your own health. And of Nole’s health, too.

Someone please start a new thread titled, “If Federer were playing in the US Open, would he have a chance?” Might be our only chance of knowing what the OP had in store for us.

Because miracles in sports hardly exist.
The guy is ranked 4th in the world, the #2 isn't playing and he just made the semis of the previous hard court major on one leg.

He's not the favorite but it wouldn't really be a miracle if a healthy Fed won the US Open. A bit surprising, someone would have to take Djokovic out, but that's the only major hurdle.

Akin to a 2009 French Open where he needs his biggest opponent taken out to dominate?

Plus, with Covid around, Djokovic might have trouble gaining access to a hyperbaric oxygen chamber.

Well. Maybe it’s that I couldn’t take again something similar to what happened in the last Wimbledon final.
I promised myself I would not have the slightest expectation on Federer.

Great, now he’s going to use your idea to save face after accidentally exposing himself as someone who doesn’t follow tennis very closely.
It has to be a troll thread. The initial post follows a format I have seen before, unless it's just a coincidence. This initially had Murray in the title instead of Nadal (below). A pretty iconic troll post imo.

You might be right, but I think we need to at least treat it like a genuine post in order to shame him for being totally uninformed about tennis, which might discourage him from doing it again.

I would like to believe you at 39.
The skills are back fairly quickly. Just solely speaking on the strokes and the hands. Quicker than anyone. The physical side/training for him is a bit more complicated I agree. Shots on the run will suffer if he's not in the right condition.

It was most likely a reverse-jinx post from a superstitious Federer fan. If he was going to be rational about it, he might have mentioned that it is tough to come back from two knee surgeries at the age of 39; even tougher to win a tournament that he has not won since 2008 and made one final after 2009. The heat and humidity of New York seems to make it harder for Federer to have enough endurance to win seven 5-set matches in a row against the same players he beats in other Slams. Apart from 3 losses to Novak (2 after MPs), his issue has been beating lesser-ranked players in nine out of the last 12 years.

Even in 2017 form, the field has improved. Thiem, Medvedev,Zverev , Felix, Rublev, I am not sure Roger would have won AO 2017 if he had to go through today's level of the spectacularly infamous and 'disappointing' Next Gen on his way to the final.
