such a pointless thread. this whole "GOAT" debate is always going to be subject to conditions like era, peers, technology, etc and always be subjective in the end. But if you really think about it (know I'm asking a lot here), this so-called title that is desired by either Fed or Nadal or Sampras fans is just that, A Title, that really only means something to the fans themselves. I doubt Sampras goes to bed every night polishing the GOAT plaque he made for himself while performing voodoo hexes on his Fed and Rafa dolls in hopes that he can someday walk down the streets wearing his GOAT medal, unchallenged by the critics and fans. He's already amongst elite tennis company, and I'm sure his life won't change based on how well or poorly Fed or Nadal end their careers.
I guess in a way it is good that people are interested in the sport enough to voice such strong (albeit often ludicrous) claims like "I want this guy to win so that we can all say he's GOAT, or someone else to lose for the same reason" etc etc.
Look, Rafa has already accomplished historical feats. Isn't that good enough? His career isn't over to my knowledge. One loss in four years at RG? That's pretty badass IMO. The greatest current clay court player that also has a Wimby title, with a career grand slam within sight. Just cheer him on, enjoy the tennis, and let history take its course. He's still young, he's got time, just let it happen. If his career ends tomorrow he will always be considered among the greats already, I don't see how he would be dismissed even if something like that happened. To say, "someday I want to see him being talked about as the GOAT", is just ridiculous. I think he's already in elite company and I'm sure he sleeps great at night. He probably learned from his loss and will emerge even better. Who knows?
Remember your cheers will not affect history (unless you go to games and heckle players during points), so just be cool and keep that GOAT hope to yourself, or it just comes off like this thread: laughable.
