threads like this embarrass me a little. The best case scenario for any slam these days is to have Fed and Rafa in the final but when that does not happen you cannot hate on the other. I am a Fed fan but I also respect Nadal greatly. As a Nadal fan you should just want Soderling to get his *** handed to him. But then again I just feel bad for him because he is a man and his first name is Robin.

You're kidding, right? Soderling is a pro and deserved his win. Is he a jerk? Yes, but he still deserved his win. I would never be angry with a player because they won against Nadal. Which is a good thing, because I wouldn't be able to like Ferrero or Hewitt, two of my other favorites.

IMHO you don't need to create threads like this. It only provokes others to respond in a not so very nice way. We know most if not all Nadal fans hate Fed, but why go the distance of creating ridiculous threads and start a flame war? What for honesty? Please give me a break!!! It applied to the issue being discussed. Some people really need to understand that everyone doesn't have to like Fed. It can't be said enough.

And, I'm not the OP, but I do agree many posters cannot accept that reality.

I never said he didn't deserve to win, I said that now that he has won that you shouldn't root against Fed just because you are a Nadal fan. The situation is slightly different now because Soderling and Fed are in the final but I said that I was surprised that Nadal fans would root against Fed to get eliminated early instead of hoping Soderling would get demolished by Gonzo.

Yes, Nadal has better character, lions heart. Federer was choked a lot. But Federer played better tennis all the time, simply he plays better having worser endurance and more vulnerable character.

I'm not fan neither of Fed, no of Nadal, I'm fanatic of tennis. So it is fair if Fed wins FO and sums up, because he is stronger than Pete, Agassi, Borg and others. He must prove that he is GOAT.

How does Nadal have a better character? Thats your opinion, character isn't determined purely by how much a guy clinches his fists and shouts "cmon" / "vamos"

Gonzalez is an example of what a real charismatic tennis player is, as is Boris Becker and such likes in Agassi and Djokovic even.

Federer and Nadal have a much lower domineer, but to state that Nadal's character is better for purely superficial reasons is just absurd. I'm 22, i'm sure if i was like this opening poster .. aged around 12-16 .. i'd be a Nadal lover, however i'm not lured in to that whole he's the cool pirate with the macho man image nonsense.

I could say Federer's a better character, gives better interviews, talks far more languages, much more personable and isn't afraid to speak his mind to the press.

Ok. You got a point. I'll root for him. Especially since I'm not sure with Nadal's status with his knee. We can forget about Nadal keeping his number 1 position if it's as serious as Nadal is making it sound.

As a RAFA fan, someday I want to see Rafa being talked about as the GOAT. Given Rafa's demanding style of play though, I don't realistically see him winning more than 12 slams! With 12 slams, the only way he could be talked about as GOAT, is if he did what Pete and Fed couldn't i.e. the career slam. That plus his winning H2H against Fed would be enough to merit Rafas consideration as GOAT.

If Fed wins the FO, he gets the career slam. As an objective person, I have to say that pretty much makes Fed GOAT( even though I would much rather Rafa or Pete have that honor!). Nadal would have to win 8 more slams to get into GOAT territory, which is a tall order to say the least.

I've always been a fan of both Nadal and Federer. I think Nadal will be fine. And he's only around 23 years old and he has quite a few majors left in him in my opinion. He is still the best clay courter of all time. And I would have to put Federer at 2nd all time on clay.

Oh, I didn't mean Nadal right now. I said that he would need ATLEAST 12 slams. Laver has 11 slams and yet he is talked about as a GOAT candidate.If Fed had only 13 slams but 1 was a FO , then he would be GOAT Imho even though Sampras has 14.

Ah ok, well there's certainly no reason that he can't be considered later. I mean even if Federer does win this French Open, we don't know what's going to happen over the next 5 years. To be quite honest, at some point I want Nadal to win the US Open as well. I want him to be another player to have the career slam, he's too good of a player, and to hard of a worker to not get it.

As for Sampras, well I dismissed him years ago as the GOAT, to many reasons to list why. It drives me nuts that he gets this title just because he's the leader in slams, big deal.

Unfortunately I can't stay true to my word and I will be rooting for Fed to win ! I was hoping Del pony would take out Fed and Gonzo would take out Soderclassless. But neither happened. I definitely do not want Sodormayor winning. Hence by default I have to support Fed!

Yes, it is a big deal.

How many other players have ever even made 20 consecutive Grand Slam semifinals? How about 17 of the last 20 finals? No one is even remotely close to that.
