Hey guys. I was gifted a 2015 RF97. I recently weighed it and was surprised to see it weigh 365g. It has a Head Hydrosorb Pro grip with an overgrip and is strung with 17g poly. There doesnt seem to be any lead on it. I havent checked under the butt cap. I have a black RF97 with a similar setup and it weighs 350g. Any thoughts?

On Wilson specs: 97RF is 340gr + about 15gr your string + about 5gram overgrip = around 360gr. I think you got a good QC wilson racquet among others.

Are you sure this one didn’t start out as a smaller grip size that was built up with a sleeve? I have one that was like that and it weighed more than mine that started out as the bigger grip size. I actually liked the weight and added 10 grams of lead in to the grip of the other one to make them the same balance and weight.

I had 3 RF racquets matched to manufacturers spec by TW. All three with over grip, strings, and dampener weigh between 360-362 g. I think the racquet you inherited is on spec.

But this has the leather grip removed and has a Head Hydrosorb grip on it. I know the leather grip was roughly 23g and the Head hydrosorb grip is 18g. So that is a 5g differential there. So the weight would be racquet (340 - 5) + 15g string + 5g overgrip = 355g. This is what confuses me - where is the other 10g coming from lol!

You need to read more about Wilson QC here. Most of theirs is under or above weight. They have bad reputation in this. So yours is not strange at all, it's just a normal situation.

My 2 black rf97 are 363 and 365 grams with overgrip (no dampener) and 16g multis. I thought I read somewhere that the red and black rf97s did not have leather overgrips, just tan synthetics? Maybe the head is actually a gram or two more than the standard Wilson one. I'm not sure how you've got a current one fully strung up weighing only 350g!

I have 3 of the 2015 RF97, all stock, with pro overgrip and sampras o-dampener, each is 364g strung. The grip on the 2015 is tan leather stock.
