Why is the Head Gravity Pro so beloved?

Hey guys, so I have been playing with the Babolat Aero Origin for a little while, and it’s great when you have time on the ball, but it’s just too heavy when rushed etc.

The Head Gravity Pro keeps coming up in every review video, is it THAT good? I play flat with a one handed backhand (mainly slice).
 
As with any racquet it is really dependent on your game and your taste, but personally I love it.

It’s a thin-beamed control frame with great feel, but the 100 inch head and large sweet spot means it’s plenty forgiving. Spin access is there even in a consistent 18x20, and the mass and high sw means it’s got plenty of plow-based power when you want to dial it up. If you prefer whippy, super maneuverable frames or trampoline power sticks that let you launch without effort it probably won’t be for you, but so far it’s as close as it comes to Goldilocks for me and my swing style, and honestly it was apparent from my very first session with it. Love at first sight and all.

I was just about to type the same thing; it’s a good middle ground between modern and old school.

It forgiving and packs a punch.
 
Like everyone said here it's nice and stable and forgiving and has a good feel. If the spec is reasonable it's awesome. However, if you get a porker with a 340+ sw good luck slugging that thing around. Brushing up on those low mid court approach shots, digging yourself out of corners, quick reaction volleys or applying more spin, all of these areas are a bit difficult in my experience.
 
I don't think I’ve seen it in real life and I guess it is not that popular at my club where you mostly see Babolats, Wilsons and Yonexes. When you see Head, it is usually the Speed, Prestige or Radical.
 
Bought but sold with no regrets- coming straight from a PT630, i did not like the feel and found it harsh on my arm

How would you guys compare it to the Pure Aero Origin in terms of weight etc? Obviously it has a much higher launch angle and spin potential, but the Gravity would probably be better for slices and serves
 
It's a players frame and not really a frame for the masses. You have to be a very good player who's used to swinging heavier frames to get the most out of the racquet. I owned the V2 version and really liked it but I need a little more help than the frame affords as I don't (or didn't at that time) have the stamina to be able to hit all out for more than a set with that frame before my arm got tired.
 
The GP is a fun frame. Very powerful and has a great feel.

For me I found it less accurate when going for smaller targets like a DTL shot so had to aim for larger. It doesn't feel too heavy either for its weight. My current frame is about the same 340G but gives me confidence the ball will go where I want.
 
I preferred the prestige mp. but it seems as if head is trying to release a sub 64 RA ~330 SW 98-100 racquet in each silo.
 
Gravity Pro is a frame for those who is used to heavy high SW (relatively) frames, but wants more forgiveness and baselinen power without sacrificing much flex-based comfort and control. Head managed to create this option, basically for male pro players.

It's good enough in defense if you are athletic as well. But it still makes you work to produce baseline power and heaviness. So it is that good for those who it suits, and there are better options for 80% of players.

Comparing to Rafa Origin is a stretch. Different frame, unless maybe you string it very low with thin spin-friendly poly, and lead up to 350+ SW...

I guess the Origin has given me good experience with heavy rackets haha
 
It's a great racket and does everything well. But for me ,at least the 2023 version which I got, is not my favourite racket to play with compared to my other sticks. I much prefer the Blade Pro 18m and the RF97. But it's closer compared to the 97HD and DR98.
 
I like the 360+ version a lot and have bought, sold, and reacquired them a few times. It's a reliable workhorse but not all that exciting or inspiring, probably in part because Z and Rubes are not all that exciting or inspiring.

It slices well. Meanwhile, to hit a drive BH you need to accelerate it. And it's hefty in the head. So you better have good technique, or this and also weight up the handle. At 340-350g strung it's great for OHBH.

Check AC Tennis YouTube, he plays with GPro as a main stick and has OHBH.
 
So I have owned and played the Gravity S (now called Team) and played with that for two years. It's a nice racquet that's light by most standards. It also has a 104 headsize and a 16x20 pattern. Two summers ago, I decided to try the Gravity Pro after having played the S since its release when I was on the TW Playtest.

WHOA! What a difference. I mean I went from a 285g racquet to a 315g racquet and the transition was smooth overall. Are there some trade-offs? Absolutely! I would be lying if there weren't some. With the S I could swing darn near as hard as I wanted all of the time and the ball wouldn't leave the court. It also wasn't all that heavy on my opponents either. With the Pro I have to play a bit more controlled as it packs a punch. When I hit a ball my opponent feels the heaviness of the shot each and every ball. The 18x20 on the 100 headsize means my strings last four times longer than on the S because I'm not hitting nearly the same spin. But the power and control are fabulous! Both racquets are great. I tried the Tour as a middle ground but I didn't feel it offered anything better so I have stayed with the Pro for two years now. I use the 2023 or second model with the purple/yellow color scheme.

Maybe this year I will try the regular MP or the new 98??? We will see. My daughter attends the University of Cincinnati, plays of their club tennis team, and works part-time at that large tennis store that keeps changing their name. She can hook me up with some demos and great deals.

No matter what. I can say it's hard for me to play better than with the Pro.

History of racquets used....
Prince Graphite 90 aka MP for almost 30 years
Prince Mono for almost 5 years
Head Gravity S for 4 years
Head Gravity Pro for 2 years

Other racquets I have played but never used for more than a handful of weeks/months...
Wilson Pro Staff 85 - never had a better control or feel for me than the Prince Graphite 90
Wilson Pro Staff Classic MP - same as above
Volkl C10 Pro (many iterations) - same as above
Head i.Prestige MP - switched to the Prince Mono because it was better at the net and with serves for my game

I had others but I traded and sold them just because.....like a PT57, etc.
 
Checking the specs of this racket I found out that it is basically a rebrand of my current racket,the Head Youtek Speed MP from 2010, great racket as well that I still play with.

anyone in here know how different the layup is between the two? might be cool to get one of the 2010’s.
 
I tried a Gravity Pro from a few years ago and the combination of the hefty swingweight and the relative disconnect with the ball compared to my Radicals led me to believe they don't make racquets with That Classic Feel anymore

later, tried a Gravity Tour (100") and it similarly felt like I was detached from the ball when hitting groundstrokes. better power, more maneuverable than the Gravity Pro

then, tried the most recent generation Gravity MP and that probably felt the closest to home, but the launch angle was a little higher than I was used to. will see if my local shop can get me a good deal on a Gravity MP as they try to move stock ahead of the new release
 
I love the Gravity Pro but if you are a grinder you have to really be in good shape since the power is low. The feel also has gotten more and more muted to where it's not like I am using a classic head frame with a massive sweetspot. Instead, it's a more modern, dead feeling frame, which lessens the appeal for me.

It's still new for me, but so far I actually prefer the Origin because it takes very little effort to generate a heavy ball. It is not great when rushed, but in those situations I'd probably be slicing anyway.

The Origin has WAY more punch to it than the Gravity so that is something to be aware of.

Why not just play with the regular Pure Aero? If you need more weight, just add some.
 
It is great racquet, simple as that. Only question is does it suit your game or not, like every other racquet.

Been using Gravity Pro from first version, didn't find anything else that works for me that good...

Playing way to long, have a history of what i like in the racquet... tried with Pure Strike, power is addictive but not enough control for me...
 
Yes, for me, the Gravity Pro is that good. In fact, it’s probably the racket I’ve always been looking for. Recently switched to GP as my main racket and I have never had so much control, with power and heavy shots/ spin. My 4.0 game looks more like 4.5 now and my doubles opponents were having a “wth” laugh about how unreturnable my shots were last time out.

My strokes are flat-leaning though I have been adding more modern spinny technique too. When I have sliced I’ve been happy with how the weight of the GP gives it some pace and weight while staying low.

Yes, I did demo it. It felt "tinny" to me. Love the feel of the gravity pro, not the Prestige. It's a very weird and personal thing feel.
Probably just my weirdness

interesting, gravity pro felt nice to me but i felt the prestige mp was a tad more stable feeling. different strokes i guess! i would like to get a gravity pro before too long

Any idea if the string spacing of the 18x20 patterns are similar? was really shocked at the level of spin generated while being a controlled. Hoping the G pro is similar!

It looks very similar, GPro has great launch and spin for a controlled 18x20. I used it with thin poly and now using 1.25 gut mains x 1.25 Solinco Confidential (or any other poly with good tension maintenance, actually).
