Why is there no WTA talk on this forum?

Typical. Barely more than 50 posts and already making stupid comments. Which banned poster are you?
I would never claim something like this.

Also who cares if tennis is exciting for Americans. It is not Russian and Serbian players fault that there is no good American player beside WS. This is not much different on the ATP side as well.

I believe the reason is the lack of "characters" / "controversies" in WTA. The hot rivalries (Jankovic - Venus, Venus - Serena etc.) are not hyped up like those of ATP. Thirdly, two pretty players (Ivanovic, Sharapova) missed most of the year due to injuries.

IN the yester years, Graf-Hingis, Graf-Seles, Graf-Navratilova, Graf-Sabatini, Hingis-Williams, Williams-Williams..... all were hyped and "talked-about" rivalries and resulted in good TRP. Not the case these days.

Characters like Djokovic/Murray/Tsonga are not there in WTA.

ya ya I mean the WIlliams sisters are good and all but its like, they're the best of the bashers... after that it goes Ivanovic is pretty and so is Dementieva... then Maria K whose like 29 in the world and then who cares?

no one on TT apparently :D

They're not all bashing. They do have powerful groundstrokes but they are exceptional at the net and their shot placements as well as movement. They are not just bashers.

On the *the women aren't hot* issue, there's a fundamental point in play- being a male professional athlete is seen as the epitome of manliness, there is an appeal instantly because these men are the top of the world at the what they do. topping the female athletic world is not the epitome of womanliness though.

the *ideal body* for a majority of male viewers does not involve the kind of muscle some of the women pack on to compete, or the lack of curves that result. while there is a correlation between sport and gaining the ideal male body, that doesn't necessarily exist for the *ideal* female body. the archetypal woman ingrained in the subconscious of most men is not a fighter and competitor. therefore for a lot of viewers i believe women's tennis, women's professional anything runs contrary to what they want or expect to see from women.

(i don't watch it because their play is dull. in person serena williams is a hell of a player. that's about it.)

I must say that there is more variation in the ATP then in the WTA. Look at how different Fed and Rafa's stroke technique is and then compare that to the top female players. Honesty, I don't observe much variation in the women's game, not since Henin retired.

I think you are saying you don't actually follow WTA and then don't know much about the players or their games. You have to do more than watch a couple slam finals.

Graf, Hingis, Sabatini were top athletes. I didn't have any problem with their looks ;)

Go to the odds and ends men only section - you just might change your mind about the ideal female body.

I tried watching a match, but it was insanely boring. I can't stand the screaming. And it seemed like high school tennis. Not very fun to watch.

That's another valid point.

Even if we thought the product was compelling, what would we talk about? On the women's side you never know who's (other than Jankovic - she plays every event) going to show up. Serena wins the USO and makes a comment about being rededicated to the sport, then suffers some mystery injury (when did she play last?) and pulls out of the Hopman. There just isn't the depth in the women's game. The only time it gets interesting is at the majors - and only then in the last rounds.

I grew to love tennis after watching Federer and Henin play. I think my play style is very heavily influenced by Henin as well. I switched from a 2 hander to a one-hander for the simplicity and versatility. Maybe I should join the WTA to add more variety. Unfortunately, my skills are no match for the tour :)

i hate the screaming from atp players like david ferrer too.
it's so loud!

in the perfect world, people should play like federer and jankovic who do not make any noise.

Jankovic leaves the noise to her very vocal coach
