Sampras was RARELY like that. He and Rafter just hated each other was all. Overrall Pete was extremely respectful and gracious in losing and willing to give the opponent FULL credit (A trait Fed is short of).
Agassi was the bigger jerk of the two.
And Sampras had NOTHING on guys like Mac and Connors or Lendl
The post above by Omega shows another incident of Sampras being an arrogant a/ss.
Agassi was honest... he was the one who was refreshing. Pete was a phony as far as I'm concerned.
And btw.. You guys wanna pull quotes, we can do the same with Fed in respect to Djoker

Yeah, Federer is more insecure than Sampras, so much so that Pete has to toss backhanded compliments to Fed every now and then and look like he was at a funeral at Wimbledon 2009. The guy might be introverted, but make no mistake: he desperately cares about his legacy, and you could tell he got defensive when he was compared with Fed. Is he an insecure guy? No, I don't think so, not any more so than the average human being, but if Fed is insecure then by your logic so is Pete
I don't see it anywhere outside of this forum. All my friends that are tennis fans are either Federer fans or respect him if he's not their favorite player.
Only on this forum do I see so much hate. People jump on him like vultures feeding on a carcus every time he loses...
It's difficult to understand because Federer is always good to his fans, respects ex-greats, always fair play on court, does not claim to be the greatest, respects his fellow players.
Sampras was an incredible class act. Even in his deepest moments of dissapointment- losses to Krajicek and Federer at Wimbledons 96 and 2001, and his loss to Kafelnikov at the 96 French, he gave his opponent huge credit even though he was so upset he could barely speak.
Federer on the other hand chooses to ruins other moment by crying during the trophy ceremony, boo hoo everyone should feel so sorry for the all time slam record holder losing a slam final, ones heart breaks for him (barfs). Then only miracelously chooses to talk about his so called "mono" after losing to Djokovic at the Australian Open and not before (and surprise as predicted back then his fans choose to drag that out for every loss until he returns to dominance through Nadal's injuries in mid 2009).
What?? Sampras has been the ultimate gentlemen and has given Fed 100 percent respect since 2007. Hell, I can't remember Sampras saying anything bad about Fed off hand
Sampras could easily slam Fed if he wanted to in regards to his "rivalry"with Rafa. He could DESTROY Fed on that front saying, "Rafa sure as hell wouldn't get the best for 10 years,on all surfaces year after year" etc. Or talk about Fed's cakewalk 2004-2007 era etc. if he wanted to be a jerk.

I don't hate Federer at all. In fact I like him.
Simply trying to prove ones opinion that Nadal is better than Federer is not hate.
For some reason certain Fed fans are hypersensitive to anyone thinking that Fed is not the goat and translate that to hate.
You need to realize that not everyone thinks the same and that's ok.....it doesn't mean anyone hates Federer.

All you need to do is browse through the Federer/Robredo thread.

I think what people hate is the witch hunt against Nadal fans.

Only someone so incredibly defensive would even post a whining "why do you hate Federer" thread. Like some of the worst cults of the past century, when its members could not force or percieve absolute submission to /worship of their false "god," in comes the fantasies, defeneive posts, and zealot-like attacks on any who know the truth, instead of fanbase propaganda.
Honestly he deserves all the hate he is getting...i have never never seen a top player suffer that much mentally. He definitely had the game to beat robr. today but with a weak mind like that? I don't think he would be getting 18th slam...he is done, every slam we are seeing mental lapses..stakovsky match was a whole lot better than the trash of match yesterday
Their is way more hate given towards Nadal. Wishes of death and dismemberment are not uncommon on these boards over the past several years, and that is not an exaggeration. I think it has died down a lot since Federer has had a bad year and so many of his fans don't post as much anymore, or at all...but yeah there isn't really much Federer hate at all here.

Dude, I've been on this forum since Aug 2009 and I have never once seen anything as extreme as that. Stop making stuff up to make you argument!!!
Your post is borderline dangerous. making up stuff like this can mentally affect some crazy person on the internet...You never know.
There is little hate toward Fed compared to other top players. I would say all of the other big 4 are getting bashed worse than Fed. A lot of Fed fans are oversensitive , that's all.

Please...Just browse through the first few pages of the general pro section and see how many threads there are bashing Federer...
Omega, ask yourself what do you gain from this thread when haters gonna hate? Do you expect them to change?
That's not true. All the players including the WTA players get their fair share of hate but remotely close to Federer. Federer is the only one who gets hate from all fan bases, which includes fans from Nadal, Sampras, Serena, Nole, Murray, Laver, Rosewall. At least Nadal got supports from Sampras fans, even from the old-timers who just want to down talk Federer since they don't like the idea of Federer surpassing Laver. Other players at least got support from other fan bases, but Federer got no one except his fans.
Rafa got twice as many in 2011 and 2012 when he was struggling with his form. Of course when 1 of the big 4 starts losing bad, the criticism/mocking amplifies and radicalizes. That's because a player in poor form is more vulnerable to attack.Please...Just browse through the first few pages of the general pro section and see how many threads there are bashing Federer...

yes everyone has haters. True.
But I agree with TMF...Fed seems to attract hate from all fanbases...Nadal, Sampras, Agassi, Laver, Borg.
True and it's quite amusing how us Fed fans heavily outnumber the haters from multiple fanbases, that is quite telling.

Sorry but that's paranoid. There are Fedal fans on this board, Fedovic fans and Fedray fans. There are also "anti-Fed" people but that would be true for other top players. Djoko got a lot of hate directed at him from Nadal fans primarily but also from some Delpo fans, Fed fans and Murray fans. In terms of witch hunting, I don't think Fed had it worst. Of course, right now, Fed is losing to nobodies, so he's an easy target but on the whole he's been intensely worshipped- and protected/defended more than any other player. That's not true.
