Why is Tsitsipas so much better than Dimitrov?

Yea. Until doing an apparent psychological reset prior to the start of this year Titsi used to severely lose his cool leading him to cheat via extended bathroom breaks, opponent serve delay tactics, and formerly illegal dad coaching in-match. He does seem mentally tougher this year though. Hopefully it will stick.

Tsitsipas has a champ's mentality. He is not a mental mug like Dimitrov. He often plays his best with his back to the wall against guys not named Djokovic. And yes, the Tsitsipas FH is better than any shot Dimitrov can hit

To be fair Dimitrov has never really been any kind of a threat to top players, some great performances sometimes but that's it, he is 31-75 against top 10 players, and his two biggest titles in 2017 were won with quite easy draws in his favor. In my opinion he actually is below Nishikori and Raonic because these two had to deal with Nadal and Djokovic in M1000 finals.

Like Gasquet, enjoyable game to watch but pretty much a non-factor in the grand scheme of things.
So Tsitsipas being better or greater than him is not that surprising, and it doesn't make Tsitsipas look like an extraordinary player retrospectively.

And if we are strictly talking about the game, I find Dimitrov much more talented and complete overall, with the exception of the FH and the serve where Tsitsipas has the edge. Stefanos is also stronger mentally I guess but again, not being mentally strong (to say the least) is probably Dimitrov's biggest flaw. And that doesn't make Tsitsipas a mental titan, far from it.

Tsitsipas for sure better on clay but I don’t remember Tsitsipas ever playing a Wim 14 SF or a AO 14/17 level.

Both are weak YEC winners.

Both are pretty flawed players, and Tsitsipas definitely has a bigger weapon in the serve/FH, making him a bit more consistent on a week to week basis I suppose, but at least Dimitrov can hit a slice and has a lot more rally dynamism.

Guy got to no 2 in the world and you’re doubting he has a champs mentality. Seriously low iqs on display
Someone has to be number 2 in this asterisk era. Doesn't make him a strong player. Call me when he finally gets a win over a 36 years old Djokovic.

TTW has always been that way though. We have posters like @StrongRule who have never ever made sense on any tennis related discussion.
Said by the person who bashes Medvedev who actually was number 1, won a slam and has 5 wins over Djokovic. Only in your imaginary world Tsitsipas losing 10 matches in a row to Djokovic (not to mention head to heads against other top players) is more impressive. You are clearly mad because you know Medvedev is many times better.

This is why you’re one of the worst posters to ever grace this forum. Every post of yours has an agenda. The topic is about Tsitsipas and Dimitrov and you just had to be a troll and bring Medvedev into the discussion.

And yes, Med is one of the worst world no. 1 I have seen in tennis. Did you enjoy the IW final? :giggle:

Funny how every time one points on your double standards, you immediately start looking for a reason to blame others.

Dimitrov easily the more talented player. But no super weapon in his arsenal. Also has a wildly passive style for a one handed player.

Case studies need to be made about you wallahi

Tsitsipas does have better mental strength. He has not won a slam yet because of his game deficiency but he always tries to give his best, even till the point of cheating, which he thinks is fair game. In this area, he is miles ahead of Dimitrov and it does count. Dimitrov never played as confidently as Tsitsipas does. He was just shotmaker throwing away potential like Kyrgios.

Tsitsipas forehand Backhand and serve everything is better than Dimitrov. Tsitsipas poor backhand doesn't mean he lacks power whatsoever. Even on defense he is much better than Dimitrov. Tsitsipas is lacking backhand to be the very best in tennis but his backhand is not that weak. Plus his strong serve and early +1 fh is much better than Dimitrov so his backhand is not totally exposed.
Dimitrov got bullied on his backhand which lacked power. And Dimitrov still played passive allowing opponents to attack his backhand.

Both of their return of serves suck so there is no favorite here.

Dimitrov is faster than Tsitsipas but I always believed he wasted his pace by having slacking footwork, always slipping on sliding. He looked clueless for much of his career.

Well said.Have watched some of Dimitrov matches recently he always slips and falls on HC like he was playing first match on Wimbledon CC grass after rain shower .I was wondering wth is wrong with his footwork.I still like Dimi but it’s not just his mentality but technical deficiencies in his game and sadly not that high tennis IQ judging by shot selection at crunch time

tsitipas bh is pretty crappy but it’s solid enough for clay. dimitrov has more fluid strokes but doesn’t have reliable consistent game. tsitipas at least at times can use his serve/FH to produce good results but he’s too technically deficient to trouble djokovic

How do you define “talented”? Dimitrov has always been more style than substance. From very early on in his career, I noticed that the guy is always scrambling and slipping on the court, as if he didn’t fully have his feet under him. It’s very strange, because I have never seen another player whose footwork was quite like this. He also lacks put away power (except on a short ball that anybody should be able to put away). Lastly, he has never shown the ability to raise his game in key moments (maybe once or twice which was most likely due to luck). To be fair, his prime coincided with Djokovic’s with Nadal and Fed still playing excellent tennis so, yes, he was unlucky in that regard.

Everyone has said it to some degree but I'll throw my 2 cents in there. Forehand - it's not close. Tsitsipas has a much bigger forehand and is no less consistent. Backhand - T's backhand is no weapon, but it's fairly consistent and for the most part, keeps him in the point. Dimitrov's ability to hit so many different types of shots, even on the backhand side, makes people forget how crappy he is on that side. Early in his career, his slice was incredibly inconsistent, which is doubly worse for a one-hander because the slice is supposed to be the shot that you hit simply to keep yourself in the point when you don't have time for the topspin. It is much more consistent now. D's topspin backhand consistently lands very short and isn't particularly heavy. Serve- T's isn't good for someone his size but it's big enough and he gets a solid amount of first serves in. Dimitrov's isn't very big and he isn't particularly accurate or consistent with it. I noticed recently it has improved in the placement recently but it's only kinda making up for him being older and slower. And when it comes to speed, D is faster but his footwork is crap so he's off balance way too much to hit clean and hard consistently. Mentally, T is better because he at least fools himself into thinking he's the best and that he should beat anyone. Dimitrov never seemed to have that belief in himself against the top guys. He never seemed to have a killer instinct. As for volleys, both are actually pretty good at the net with the slight edge to Dimitrov but that means little in this age when net play constitutes such a small part points.

Throwback to one of the greatest posts on this website.

Stefanos Tsitsipas does not have a champs mentality.

Being up 2 sets to love in a GS final vs Earth's Mightiest says otherwise but yeah, he's one of the biggest mental cases on tour. He needs someone like Del Potro to develop a simple but consistent game centered around his FH and serve.

Choking a 2-0 lead vs Earths Mightiest is literally all the proof you need to know that he doesn’t have a champs mentality.
