Why not to choose the RDX 500 Mid?

Between the RDX 500 Mid, LM Prestige Mid and NCode Tour 90, I finally decided to go with the Yonex. Any reasons why not?

Well, of these three I think you picked the right one. I have the LM Prestige Mid, and prefer the RDX over it (similar characteristics). The ncode 90 I'm sure has a much smaller sweetspot and higher swingweight.

Joey:

Kind of a broad question. :-)

BTW - did you ever get to demo the racquets? As I noted in your other thread, I would recommend you demo, if at all possible, before putting your $$ on the line.

I tried them all, and the main issue I had was weight - the Head and Wilson are both about 12.4 oz, vs. the RDX 11.8, and will demand more from you and your arm. :-)

I found I couldn't bring the Head & Wilson around on groundies and at the net as quickly as I wanted to, and the additional stiffness of the Wilson concerned me for long-term arm wear. The Wilson and Head are going to give you more pop than the Yonex, all are very solid overall, something I crave in a racquet.

I recently demoed NCODE 90, RDX Mid, LM Prestige Mid, and surprisingly(or not) decided to stick with ProStaff 85.
Reasons:

NCODE 90: Just my perception but it was very similar to my Prostaff 85 but a little too stiff for my arm. Had pains all night long inside of my arm...scary, dunno if it was just my arm but...decided to pass on this one
LMPrestige: Liked it, little too heavy for my taste, even considered switching from my prostaff after I hit couple of forehand kills crosscourt and down the line, but only after I picked up my PS 85 again I realised that my game is just that much better (more confortable) with ps than LM prestige. Doue to heavy feel of Prestige.

RDX: Seamed the most manuverable like a lighter version of Prestige but at times was almost too light and there were times when I was returning heavy serve balls that I wished I had Prestige or my PS 85 blocking the monster serve instead.

Eventualy decided to stick with PS 85

Agree with Redflea. Definitely demo. I found the RDX to be too flexible for my tastes. Instead of "buttery" I'd describe it as feeling a bit like a wet noodle. I agree with others that it provides adequate power but didn't find it great for control. Think the LM Prestige offers much better control.

Actually, the RDX is stiff in the hoop and is overall stiffer than the LM Prestige Mid or the Prestige Classic. It might have felt like a "wet noodle" because it doesn't provide free power, so those with short, choppy, or slow swings will get little power out of it.

But as far as control, the RDX mid is one of the most accurate frames I've ever played with and other good players on this board will verify this.

Thanks, bounce-hit. Cracked me up...great visual...pasta-based RDX. ;-)

My RDX mid feels more al dente. Control is a key strength of this racquet for me...I can feel the ball on the strings and provide the power/angle/spin in increments to do the voo-doo that I do so well.

Maybe your stringer boiled it too long? :-)

I've played (Albee for a short time) with all three... all were strung with factory (crap) strings...

didn't like the nCode at all, far too stiff, and small sweetspot.

Loved the Prestige, plenty of weight and stable as anything I've hit with... slightly stiff feel from the string-bed, no double due to the strings... never liked head handles.

Liked the RDX Mid, much prefered it to the MP... a bit light, but stable for its weight... didn't like the balance, needs more head light... the beam is too think round the head, it should be 19mm straight beam.

...for all the string was a major factor... I think the RDX was the least string dependant, and the nCode and Prestige the most... you need decent strings to get the most out of them.

I didn't notice much spin difference between any of them, but just prefered the weight and balance of the Prestige to the RDX... nCode was simply to stiff!
