Why there are no public Tennis court for poor citizens? There are alot of free public basketball courts, and free football ground courts in Europe

Why there are no public Tennis court for poor citizens?
There are alot of free public basketball courts, or free football ground fields available for people
We need to give more acces to poor people to acces this sport in the cities, but it seems that building a tennis court is more expensive than a basketball court ? no jokes

Where do you live? Here in Fla there are plenty of public courts.

Never knew India had any public tennis courts. Didn't find any while I was travelling through that poor nation a few years ago

Over 50% don't have decent sanitation in their homes but they have tennis courts for the poor!

In my city since this winter one hour playtime is 34-40€ .. yeah and 0 free courts. Still Europe > NA in Tennis lol

Had over 200 free/public courts for a population of less than 400k. Problem is little maintenance by the city the past few years. Dedicated to the pickle lovers now

At least in India the tennis courts are free for poor people.

Where are the free tennis courts in India ? There are basketball courts, badminton courts but even they are not free, there are 0 tennis courts that are free in India. You must have visited some other country and mistaken it to be India. Tennis is really expensive business in India, it is not for the hoi polloi. Football grounds are plenty for free, in an overpopulated country finding free tennis court ? LOL, are you kidding me?

Scores of free public tennis courts (and basketball courts, baseball fields, football fields, soccer fields, and more) all across the United States.

Obviously, a good amount aren’t in the best shape due to being publicly funded, but it’s still amazing how much is available here and how many really are in great condition.

Plenty of free courts in the state of Maryland in the United States.

Right in the city park and other places.

Even in Serbia the homeland of Novak Djokovic there aren't free tennis courts. Tennis is popular just on TV while in reality there are many more sports that are more playable for the masses requiring far less resources. Even if you make a free tennis court out of good quality asphalt, soon it will be crowded with boys and girls kicking balls instead of using racquets. Tennis is a sport of fine additional equipment that you need to carry which makes all the difference when it comes to free, public and relaxed.

Here we don’t have many public courts, but we do have lots of poor citizens, who generally don’t have much time to play tennis.
Recall working FT next to an 81 yo guy last yr. Came back after a Covid leave and was hesitant to ask where he was. Prob not on a tennis court.

We have had some council areas in Sydney NSW where you could just go on the courts and have a hit but if someone had paid and booked then you had to get off.
The other situation was becoming a member of a district tennis association. Once you did that ( and it wasn’t expensive) you could go into n any time during times the courts were not used for comp and coaching.
There are govt initiatives for healthy recreation participation that can be implemented including free vouchers that low income earners or unemployed could access.
So there are ways you can organise things to get access to tennis courts.

I admittedly haven't been everywhere in Sydney, but the only free courts I found were on Garden Island which has limited public access, and one in Woolloomooloo (love the sheep-toilet-cow-toilet sign), and that one you had to go into the community center to borrow the net.
