Why's Nadal playing all these grass tournaments?

His current ranking is 10, isn't it? With 8 slots for the WTF?

Rafa's #7 in The Race, only 15 points behind Federer for the #6 spot. It's the end results of The Race that determine who qualifies for the WTF. If Rafa stays healthy the rest of the year, he'll be there and in fact will be there in one of the top positions.

Ah, thank you. I'll read up on this - I thought it was based on rankings.

Don't forget he also wants to qualify for the WTF; by playing more tournaments, he increases his chances of doing that.

Why would he want to do that ?

Considering it's just a "cheesy exo", at the end of the season when "everyone is tired or injured", for those "who did not win anything during the season".

...
Not really the moment to bring it up imo...

I let CNN explain to you:
¤¤ Most people would be delighted with a V8 Mercedes sports car, but perhaps not someone who is a well-paid ambassador for a rival automotive manufacturer.
"It's not a Kia, but it's still good," Nadal said diplomatically after a brief inspection inside the garish yellow vehicle, winning huge laughs from the crowd. ¤¤

Not only that, the Kia is less likely to become a paperweight at random times. I learned this from personal experience.

Humble Nadal doesn't drive expensive cars since they tend to sit low and his hurt his knees on entry/exit.

Rafa rolls in this :

At this point, Nadal just needs as much match experiences as possible.....

I think he should play as much non-hard court matches as possible this year.

This someone knew Mercedes sponsored the event, and that he'd get the car publicly were he to win. Not exactly the time to bring up another brand, he does promotions for them already.

"I don't know if I can change the color, because the color is a little bit too much for me," demurred the man well known for his politeness.

Didn't know Rafa was colour-conscious !!!
