which one would you most want to get.

things to remember:

wii- motion sensored controller, only 250 bucks

xbox 360- will host halo 3 and halo wars, no motion sensory about 500 bucks

PS3- blue ray discs, great graphics, 6-axis motion sensored controllers, but 600 dollars.

Wii for me. It may not play dvds and such, nor have reat graphics, but nintendo's always been fun to play with for the most part, except for the virtual boy.

Plus, you get to play all the old nintendo games on the wii too. With Mario 64, and the zelda series, I'll be occupied for a while. And it comes with a free copy of wii sports, including tennis, haha.

So far all of Wii games' reviews have not been very good. The highly enticipated "Red Steel" is receiving mediocore reviews. Another highly anticipated "Legend of Zelda" is getting a good but not great review, it's the same old game.
Wii is a toy, a toy that you will quickly be tired of. I have little doubt that you will be entertained when you tried out the Wii games, but you will also be tired of the games fast. Not to mention the graphical power of Wii is about the same as the old xbox. Another issue with Wii right now is the sensitivity issues. Reviewers have been complaining about the controller sensitivity issues of the controller that many Wii games have.
With that being said, if you are kid or adults who don't play video games often and would like to be able to play games with your kids, Wii might be the more suitable option to you. If you are looking for a console that showcase the technologically advance graphic while featuring high production games that will keep you entertained for a long time, ps3 and xbox360 is the way to go. PS3 also provide many attractive functionalities such as the abilities to play Blu-Ray, music, video, photos, run linux, and allowing custom softwares. I would say ps3 is the best machine in this console war.

i completely understand. Not sure that I agree with you on the wii, because i haven't done any research about the customer reviews on games, etc. I would LOVE to buy the PS3, but it is just too ridiculously expensive. I am an avid halo fan, and for halo 3 and halo wars, i might be leaning to the xbox 360, although there is no motion sensitivity.

I don't like any of these machines so far..

My Xbox 360 is broken, for the second time. These machines are faulty yet I have to pay to get it fixed. The PS3 is way too expensive and you can't even buy one because of lack of supply.

The Wii is something I have high hopes for but they need better launch games. Mario Kart and Mario Tennis should be launch titles.

Also, so what if the Wii is a toy? Toys are fun, machines are machines.

Toys make you smile. Machines make you cringe.

It's the same philosophical difference between wood tennis and modern tennis.

PS3 is technologocally the strongest of the three. The Revolution (I refuse to call it the other name) is the weakest, but has the most innovative control system. I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think Xbox360 has the best sports games and online multiplayer options.

Personally, I like the Playstation games the best. This is based on the past though. Also, I don't know how the Revolution's games are, so I can't say much for them.

Check out www.gamespot.com and www.ign.com for the game reviews.

PS3 is overpriced if you are only considering using it as a gaming console. But as a multimedia centre, it is really a bargain when you compare it to other similar products other there. A cheap Blu ray player right now runs for about $900 USD, and it doesn't even have the other cool functionalities that PS3 have.

Granted, xbox 360 has multimedia functionalities as well, but they are not as good as ps3. With a xbox360, you cannot copy mp3 to your harddrive, you can only stream music or rip it from a audio CD; you can only play very limited amount of video formats; you cannot run custom OS or software, which can bring in so many possibilities for the console such as AVI play back, emulators, and much much more; external HD-DVD player that's not included in the package and it is expensive and ugly and when you add that to your xbox360 it's more expensive than the premium ps3; small harddrive that cannot be replaced by other harddrive currently, and even if they can in the future they have to be the official expensive harddrive; does not include Wifi connection. Plus everyone agrees that xbox360 makes so much heat and noise and no where as elegant and pretty as PS3. Some game reviewer said that is can heat up so much that it can even heat up a room!

I'm not a big halo fan, but if you are into the nextgen gaming alone and don't care about the multimedia functionalities and motion sensing fuctionalities, xbox 360 would be the best choice right now. However, considering that triple A titles such as metal gear 4, final fantasy 13, Lair and motostorm are very likely to be PS3 exclusive coming out next year, PS3 will be a better gaming console soon. And FYI almost all of the sport games on xbox 360 are coming out for ps3, only fifa from EA is exclusive for it for 1 year, but who plays fifa when they can play pro evolution soccer, which is gonna be on both of the platforms. Online functionalities of xbox 360 is better than ps3 right now, that is because you have to pay for it. PS3 just came out and its online functionalities has room for improvement, but it is FREE! That's right, enjoy playing all of your shooter games and sports game for FREE online!

One of the big reasons that I'm getting a PS3 because I'm planning to do some programming on it and Sony is pretty generous about letting everyone to program for it. So PS3 for me :)

There's nothing wrong with toys, but they are things that you play and forget. I have all of the last gen consoles and that's the impression I get from all of the ninendo DS games and some of the gamecube games. Most of them are interesting for about 5 minutes. So far the game reviewers are giving this kind of reviews to the Wii games. The only game that I'm looking forward to play on Wii is Smash Brothers and the gamedevloper are not even gonna use the motion sensing abilities for the core gameplay!! I really don't care about any other games coming out for it.

Anyone know if the Wii units are plentiful? Can I just go get one or is there low supply?

The launch shipments are sold out so try next week. There should be a constant flow of units and it will definetly be easier than finding a PS3 for sure.

And let me tell you Wii Sports = super fun. I really like Tennis, Bowling and Boxing. I also played an hour of Zelda which is amazing. I highly recommend Wii. Now Im going back to play.

i have been sitting on my butt for the past 2.5 hours playing zelda.. it is jsut so much fun.

if the wii is anything like the gamecube its only fun for one perpous. playing games like super smash bros or mariokart when you are at your little cousin's house and it evens the playing field because all it is is button mashing. i absolutely hate the wii controllers, i mean what is this actually moving when playing video games? video games are supposed to be lazy laying in bed and barely moving fingers to play. but seriously i know i would slam my hand into something if i tried the wii. not to mention can you imagine 4 players trying to play? lots of hitting each other.

i am still deciding on an xbox 360 or ps3. i have enough saved up for both. (having a job when you dont need it kicks ass) i might wait for a few months let the dust settle then decide which one is better. you know ask users of both and see. let more than 5 games come out for ps3. so far it looks like ps3 but i am still unsure. anyways origional xbox still has lots of fun left in it.

I would like to get...
For free - PS3
If I actually had to pay - Wii

PS3 is nice, but not worth 600 dollars... the Wii is affordable, and if I needed another dvd player I would just get one...

I played the Wii today at my friends house, and let's say im unimpressed. We played Wii Sports, Madden, Red Steel, and Zelda. Of the 4, Wii Sports was by far the best. All of the games were fun and easy to play. Madden was ok, but to complicated for my liking. Zelda wasn't cool at all, but i dont like those type of games, but even my friend didnt like it and he likes those type of games. Finally, Red Steel was TERRIBLE. The controls were jerky and impossible to aim. We played for 5 minutes and then put wii sports back in. My vote is for xbox 360 (gears of war is the best game ever made).

ok so i looked at some of the ps3 games and the ones that really got my attention were lair and resistence. is it true that oblivion is coming out for ps3? i heard this somewhere and if it does this will be a huge push towards ps3 for me.

Wii for me, though I would add a PS3 for franchise games such as the Final Fantasy, Metal Gear games when the price of the console falls and such titles arrive. Nintendo has historically been the most innovative video game company, sure in recent years their consoles haven't been so hot on the hardware side but their games are always innovative without having to resort to near porn blood and guts.

I'd get a Wii now, and a PS3 one or two years from now.

Lone Gun, you say that the games for the Wii right now aren't getting amazing reviews, but neither did the launch games for the 360. It takes time for developers to fully utilize the power of all of these systems. The recent 360 games are getting better I think.

Still, I agree, the PS3 is a much more viable option, but I still think it's too early for me to get one right now. It's usually better to get the 3rd or 4th runs of the consoles.

Yea oblivion is intead coming out for ps3, should be here on Jan 1 2007 according to EB with some minor upgrade to the graphics and include the new expansion pack to the game. In fact many of the xbox 360 games are coming out for ps3 as well, such as FEAR, rainbow six las vegas and all of the sports games except fifa, which I've played in my friend's house and it sucked more than the old xbox version. For me, microsoft's first party titles such as halo 3 and halo wars do not interest me one bit. (finished the first 2 and they did not impress me one bit) I'm much more interested in Sony's first party games such as kill zone2, god of war, heavenly sword, motorstorm and second party games Lair, final fantasy, and metal gear.

You know, saying the PS3 has a "6-axis motion sensored controller" but the Wii only has a "motion sensored controller" really makes the PS3 sound like the motion sensors on it are a lot more advanced. Wii's motion sensors are much more advanced, however, since you can move the controller all around your body like a sphere. The PS3's controller is limited to things more like twisting, turning, etc. Correct me of I'm wrong though since I haven't been following them all that closely as of late. Just thought I'd point it out since the way the Wii controller works is one of it's main selling points.

Oh and to respond to the actual thread:

I would buy the Wii if I bought one (I haven't planned on getting any of them yet). Like most say I don't want to shell out more than half a thousand dollars to play games that will also cost me a pretty penny. I'm satisfied with just having fun with a system that just plays video games (I think I have at least 4 places I can play DVDs already) :p

You do realize that Wii remote is just sixaxis + a improved 20 year old infrared aiming technology that was originally found on NES (duck hunt anyone?) It's not the kind of technological leap that you are thinking.

PS3.

I've always been a fan of Sony and their wide range of games.

The new Playstation is by far the most technologically advanced game system known to mankind. I think the Wii is for girls and children.

That's correct. Neither controller is really "advanced" compared to everything else--the technology's been there for decades. But what I was getting at is that the Wii's controller does things that the PS3 controller can't do (using motion sensing and such).

ok so ive looked at the 360's games and ive gotta say, not really impressed. gears of war is something that jumps out at me of course. anyone know how resistance compares to it?

and also does anyone know is topspin is coming out for the ps3? and if not what good tennis games are gonna be out for ps3?

my big concern is that with the wii using motion sensored controllers, the game depends so much on the controller working perfectly. If its aim is a little off, then it can ruin your whole game. Anyways, as i said, I'm an avid halo fan, and with halo 3 and halo wars coming out, xbox 360 might stand out a bit more. I've also heard some rumours of the PS3 over heating and stuff in only a few hours.

Gears of War is gonna be on PC, just wait a few months. Unfortunately top spin won't come out on ps3 because it's second party game for xbox360. However, virtual tennis 3 is coming out next year for both xbox 360 and ps3 which is gonna look and play a lot better than top spin, so stay tuned.

go for the 360!
ive had mine now for a year, and am still loving it, there are so much games out now to choose from aswell, my choice would be to go for
xbox360 premium, with viva pinata & gears of war (a good contrast of games)
