Well - he entered in Top 10 at same age that of Nadal (18) at same tournament (Barcelona) on same date 17 years later. He has already won a masters and 500 events. Made semis in couple of other masters. I won't get surprised if he wins slam this year itself. But real challenge is beating Nadal' breakthrough season achievements. Will he able to do it? Vote in poll..

11 titles? 3 Masters and 1 Slam? If he somehow wins Madrid and RG, he will be on track for at least the results at top tournament. 11 titles overall it's a bit tricky.

Nadal's 2005 achievements were to win 1 major, 4 M1000s and 11 tournament wins overall. And a 79-10 win-loss record, despite his season being ended prematurely.

I like the kid a lot but:

What if he wins couple of Slams this season and ends year as #1? I would rate his season better in this case.

Yes, as he'd be showing elite ability on multiple surfaces (and of course #1 is a mega deal). Nadal won a ton of titles but was still a ways away from success away from clay at the Slams. I'm not gonna go ahead and predict that for Alc though. He'd do brilliantly to win just 1 Slam, as Nadal did.

He's already #2 in the race, with the potential to be less than 100 points behind Rafa. I really think he will get world #1

Nadal's losses at the HC slams in 2005 weren't even bad. Wimb is a different deal.

It’s not likely that he’ll have a 2005 Nadal-level season but even if he just wins a Slam it’s lol be a huge success of a season and better than any season a teenager has put together since 2005/2006 Nadal.

For someone to say that winning a Major as a teenager is an everyday thing, here is the list of players who did it at that age in the Open Era:
Borg in 1974 and 1975, at RG.
Wilander in 1982, at RG and in 1983, at the Australian Open.
Becker in 1985 and 1986, at Wimbledon.
Edberg in 1985, at the Australian Open.
Chang in 1989, at RG.
Sampras in 1990, at the USO.
And Nadal is the last to achieve it, in 2005, at RG.
Only 7 prodigies have achieved it, will Carlitos Alcaraz be the "eighth wonder"?
8-B:unsure:

Let’s review Nadal’05 and separate the wheat (big titles) from the chaff (match win count, minor titles at Costa Sauipe and Bastad). Also, remember that 79 wins record will never be a reachable target for Alcaraz because of the implementation of 1R byes at many tournaments. Nadal played 17 1R matches in 2005 while Alcaraz will probably wind up in single digit 1R matches. 70 wins is an equitable result for him to match Nadal at 79 in 2005.

If Alcaraz wins Madrid it will be his fourth title of the season by the first week of May, just two weeks behind Nadal’05 pace but in three less tournaments. He’s definitely on pace with a win this week. He also can pick up pace on grass (Nadal 1-2 on grass that year) and the summer HC series (needs a M1K to match Nadal’05).

I seriously doubt he retreats to clay after Wimbledon like Nadal’05 (Umag will not be defended) because he has confidence in potential results on HCs after the USO’20 run and now a SF at IW and a title in Miami. Realistically, he has to be a top 3 favorite at RG and USO, barring any physical setback and especially if the clay wins continue.

Then, of course, we have to hope there are 9 M1Ks this year with a fall Asian tour. That’s looking grim with the situation in Shanghai but fingers are crossed the ATP can do something to fill the void if it remains.

Getting the one slam to match Nadal’05 could be reasonably met. The next question is: can he get two?

I voted “yes.” 1 slam, 4 M1Ks (out of 8), 70 wins, 9 titles above 250. That would be comparing a Red Delicious to a Granny Smith instead of a banana to one of those apples.

Honestly, I need to see him win a slam first before all that you said. And let's not forget that Rafa went through the dominant guy to win RG in 2005. I wanna see if Alcaraz can even beat current Djokovic at RG.

Also, the wonder boy does not have "Peakerer" as an obstacle to finish the season as number 1 in the world.
Had there not been, Nadal would have become the youngest player in history to achieve it; Alcaraz will have a good opportunity to get it.

Who would have finished at No.1 in 2005 without Federer in their ways?. I think Nadal but Lleyton could have a decent chance too (probably won Wimbledon and USO, also made a F at AO).

It's possible Hewitt could've done it if he'd won both Wimb and USO, yes.

For now, that honor belongs to Lleyton Hewitt 8-B

Alcaraz has until January 2024 to take that from Hewitt.

I was specifically referring to finishing the season as number 1 in the world and Alcaraz will have this and the following season to become the youngest player to achieve it, and if he does, he will surpass Hewitt's record.

I think yes, outside Majors.

If he manages to win a Slam, then yes overall. He seems destinied to win 4 Masters 1000 or so.

In 2005 Nadal was a young guy who grew up with poly playing against guys who grew up playing with gut who were desperately trying to adjust. I believe it is called a weak era for that reason.

Carlos doesn’t have that luxury. He will do well, but not as good as Nadal in 2005.

Still so much vitriol LMAO.
