So far he can't even beat ARV LMAO.
I’m glad the votes are publicly visible..So far he can't even beat ARV LMAO.
I mean majority of the are renowned nadal haters, compare nadal against Hitler and they pick Hitler.I’m glad the votes are publicly visible..
It’s still a ridiculous comparison even if he wins. Imagine 2005 Nadal losing 2 sets to ARV.Haters - at least wait till he loses. Then start celebrating.
Losing sets is enough if we're making direct comparison between Nadal and Alcaraz. Of Nadal's 106 match wins at the French Open, only 2 went into a fifth set. Alcaraz has lost 2 sets to Ramos-Vinolas.Haters - at least wait till he loses. Then start celebrating.

Grosjean still better than ARV.2005 Nadal at the French Open dropped a set each to Grosjean, Federer and Puerta. The Grosjean match took a weird turn, when Grosjean queried a line call from earlier in a rally after carrying on with the point, the umpire correctly refused to look at any mark, and the crowd went crazy, taking minutes to restore any kind of order, while booing and hissing the umpire whenever he called scores. It unsettled the then inexperienced 18-year-old Nadal a lot, but he still held it together, came back the next day and won. Nadal was the slight underdog going into the match with Federer, and won in 4 sets. He was clear favourite to beat Puerta, and got pushed very hard indeed. Puerta had 3 set points to make it 2-2 in sets, but Nadal won in 4 sets.
I doubt even 2005 Nadal loses a set to Ramos-Vinolas at the French Open, unless there was something weird like the Grosjean situation.
Could always win the USOlol well there it goes

If he doesn't make up for it at the USO, this is a pretty big failure.Matching Nadal at FO is highest possible bar. All he needs is a slam win this season..
Nadal is KOC. Alcaraz is not. Even if he loses in French - he will have another opportunity in USO. He is better than young Nadal on hard courts.
Best of 5 sets is just very different. We only have to look at Zverev. Getting rid of best of 5 sets finals at some of the M1000s hasn't been smart. If he doesn't make up for it at the USO, this is a pretty big failure.

Nadal at age 18 reached the final of 2005 Miami. At 19, he won the 2005 Canadian Open in Montreal and the 2005 Madrid Indoor.Nadal is KOC. Alcaraz is not. Even if he loses in French - he will have another opportunity in USO. He is better than young Nadal on hard courts.
As @MichaelNadal would say, slay bestie.Nadal at age 18 reached the final of 2005 Miami. At 19, he won the 2005 Canadian Open in Montreal and the 2005 Madrid Indoor.
You mean a guy who's beaten all the top 3 to win a masters recently shouldn't be expected to get past the 2nd round of a major?Failure if you compare him with young Nadal. Nobody teen age player has won Slam since Nadal.
He was very close to winning 2005 Miami against Federer. He won the 2005 Madrid Indoor final from 2 sets down against Ljubicic.

I hope so, otherwise this tournament is gonna suck.He survives. May pass second round.

Having the de facto final in the quarters would be weird. Alcaraz losing would be huge for Novak but for the sake of entertainment Carlos needs to come through here.I hope so, otherwise this tournament is gonna suck.
Exactly. Don't want Djokodal to be the only match worth watching.Having the de facto final in the quarters would be weird. Alcaraz losing would be huge for Novak but for the sake of entertainment Carlos needs to come through here.
Alcaraz's stats from the early hard court season are pretty remarkable. 88% service games won, 34% return games won – compared to Nadal's 85% SGW and 29% RGW in 2005. Of course, that's comparing a whole season to three tournaments for Alcaraz. He'll probably come down to earth a bit, but I don't see his return games won dropping all the way to 29%.Nadal at age 18 reached the final of 2005 Miami. At 19, he won the 2005 Canadian Open in Montreal and the 2005 Madrid Indoor.
When it comes digging deep and winning long physical matches - Alcaraz is really successor of Nadal.
My point still stands, catch 2005 Nadal nearly losing to a 34 year old journeyman.
He's not winning a slam this year unfortunately.Let's wait. If he managed to win a Slam this year - nobody will talk about this five setter. Every great has his own trajectory of success.

Nadal's 2005 achievements are to win 1 major, 4 M1000s, 11 tournament wins overall and a 79-10 win-loss record, despite his season ending prematurely in late October. Had Nadal managed to finish the year off, he would probably have ended 2005 with more match wins than Federer. Federer was 81-4 in 2005, also had 11 tournament wins, 4 M1000s, but 2 majors. The poll asks if Alcaraz will beat Nadal's 2005 achievements. If Alcaraz wins RG, he and 2005 Rafa are even at RG. The number of sets lost won't matter.

He is looking good. He will lose in the quarterfinals!Only the USO left now..

Not quite imo. Finishing YE. no. 1 was much easier this year than in 2005. Rafa earned more ranking points than CarlitosHe did..

Fair enough, I personally think Masters titles are part of achievement and that - given the circumstances - 4 Masters vs. 1 is more than enough to make up for the YE. no. 1.1 slam with YE # 1 > 1 slam with YE #2. Read the thread title - it's all about achievements.

but of course! My point still stands though, but I guess it comes down to what you define as 'achievements'He has got 2 masters.
