Almost certainly. Unless he suffers a freak injury or loses his motivation. Sky is the limit for him.

Nope.

His game relies too much on his speed/fitness which will dwindle when he gets to his late 20s and 30s and he's not unbeatable, he's had a couple of shock losses and I think that will happen more and more as he goes on and more players will become motivated to learn and beat him. The fact Alcaraz is routinely taken to 5 sets in most slams is already a sign of it, yes his record in said 5 set matches has been fantastic so far but y'all really think that will continue? I don't.

By 29-30 he could be sitting at 20 Slams.

Depends on Sinner. I don't see a 3rd guy appearing soon, and I see Alcaraz having a long career.

Another factor will be his clutchness and 5th set effectiveness. So far, it's been stellar and the GOAT in that department maybe, but he needs that to continue being the case because he gets into long and tough matches basically every slam.

Sounds exactly like what people would say about Rafa early on in his career.

Yeah, you beat me to mention it. Strange that people still believe that after Nadal and also Djokovic in tennis, and after what the general development across many sports shows. Careers of 20 years at the top will be the normality. Or at least a normal possibility if not for specific career-ending injuries and if the motivation always stays the same.

If he stays on pace and can win 2 out of the next 3, he’ll be a third of the way there already. If he at least gets 2 of the next 4, my answer is a firm yes. The idea of Federer in 4th place is WILD though

Like they say on election night, it's too early to call. So much can happen before he reaches it. A lot depends on what he can do this year and next year though to keep his fast pace going. Needs to strike while the iron is hot and while there aren't many threats to him because at some point I see that changing.

Depends on his physical fitness/health. If Karl avoids career-threatening injuries, he's quite likely to do it since competition is in complete shambles and not getting better in any foreseeable time. I assume motivation won't be an issue since Alcaraz appears keen on winning and is obviously enjoying himself on court due to his showman nature, which makes a potential burnout unlikely.

We need to see who will emerge. Tough to predict it. If the level of competition remains the same it has been since 2020 throughout his 30s, than it is almost certain that he will break the record.

Many things have to continue to go right for him to break the record. I would say that’s it’s almost certain that he won’t break the record because of this even though he’s a greater talent than Djokovic.

Factors in my "no" vote include, but aren't limited to:
  • Health. Tennis at his level is astoundingly rough on the body from head to toe. Hopefully he avoids serious injury.
  • Motivation. Is the guy gonna be single-mindedly focused on tennis for an extended period? What if he settles down, has a coupla kids, and wants to get into Dad Mode? Elite players make tons of money from tournaments and sponsors... when is enough enough?
  • Competition. Who knows, maybe another Carlitos or 2 or 3 steps up and starts claiming some slams.
Regardless, I think he'll be in the GOAT conversation if we're fortunate enough to have him around a few more years. Nobody says Michael Jordan isn't worthy of basketball GOAT consideration because he doesn't have the most championships. MMA online fans argue constantly about who the true GOAT is, the candidates in question having a variety of title wins.

I'm looking forward to watching his career play out no matter what happens.

This is true because we have to factor in other things besides just number of X won, number of Y weeks, etc.

Carlitos is by modern tennis standards short and just a few years ago, his ceiling was considered limited because of this especially in relation to someone like Sinner.

Number of slams won by players under 6 feet in the past 20 years: 7, all by Carlitos
Number of weeks at #1 by players under 6 feet in the past 20 years: 61, all by Carlitos

If you asked a poll question here four years ago whether someone 5’10.5 could become a GoAT contender, you’d get a resounding no for an answer.

In the modern game that took shape in the early 2000s and firmly took hold over the last 20 years, the two biggest disadvantages are being shorter and having a single handed backhand.

These disadvantages have been overcome by the two most talented players of the past 50 years along with McEnroe.

In fairness TB3's slam losses before turning 23 hardly pose a murderer's row besides each other. If you exclude USO24, Carlos has basically only lost to the top guys since breaking through while giving them their fair share of drubbings in return. Lack of truly elite comp or not, he deserves credit for cutting out many of the stupid losses most early careers are plagued with.

Yes, only himself could prevent this. Will o retake fed as goat, get the cygs, and inspire a new era of dynamic tennis. He won’t get all the other records that people have conjured up, ie the most 250’s with a thbh, the most weeks in the top 27 by a player shorter than 5’11.37, the months at #1 prior to yec with a haircut shorter than the shoulders…but yes he will have the most slams, and be larger than life by the time he’s done.

Unless he falls in love…then all bests are off other than the goat/inspiration status. Dude is so fun to watch.

While extremely impressive, 7 is still a very, VERY long way from 25, and there are a ton of unpredictable variables that can occur between now and then that could knock him off course. Honestly, even discussing this as a possibility is kind of stupid at this point. Let's talk when he hits 20.

Well tbh we have done this with people far less deserving lol. No one has had the start Alcaraz has, and no one has had THIS much talent this young to back it up. I feel you though, it is early af. It’s just hard to see anyone on this tour stepping up.

As a physically precocious early bloomer, Alcaraz was better at an early age than most ATGs but not Nadal (or Borg). Lack of competition certainly helps to create a perception to the contrary among the non-astute, for example Alcaraz's AO losses to Zedrot and Ancientvic are respected while Nadal's losses to Gonzalez and Tsonga are clowned, nevermind that they were on absolute fire (although Alcaraz at least took a set so gave a bit better performances than Ned but he'd certainly lose comfortably to the Nadal conquerors as well, playing like he did).

Now though he's entering the common peak age for ATGs, the period where all top ATGs were extremely strong and consistent for many years. Let's see how well he can match that. I certainly don't expect anyone to come close to Fed's 23 straight slam semis & 36 straight quarters in my lifetime, at least.

Fed made 10 slam finals in a row from Wimbledon 2005 to USO 2007. Then another 8 finals in a row from RG 2008 to AO 2010. Crazy consistency.

Mensik and Fils?

They can be great players, but not Sincaraz level. Mensik is too serve-reliant, not good enough from the baseline to go toe-to-toe with Sincaraz. I think he can be a Roddick kind of player, maybe a bit more depending on how he evolves, but not Sincaraz.

Fils, I see him as a solid top 5, but not fighting for #1.

didn't you say slam record is the most important like 2 weeks ago ?? Djoko fans vex me.

No.

No male player should win 20+ slams and no male player would win 20+ slams if not for the anomaly of consecutive LostGens.
