Will Andreeva become the Next Hingis or Next Serena?

Mirra Andreeva is the third youngest woman to every win Indian Wells. The youngest was Martina Hingis in 1998. Second youngest was Serena Williams in 1999. Do you think Mirra will have more of a Hingis-type career or Serena-type career?

Let me pump breaks right now. She is 17 and let her create own legacy.

Hingis is not Hewitt. She is Uber accomplished. Anyone would be happy to have career like Hingis. Almost an ATG.

Mirra Andreeva is already, as of today, UTR World #3.

And with Coco reeling after dumping Gilbert last fall and ditching his helpful racquet geek-ups, Andreeva will move to UTR #2 any day now.

Hingis was 17 wins and 17 losses vs. Venus/Serena (in singles!).
11-10 vs. Venus.
6-7 vs. Serena
And that's when they were at their most athletic, not when they were fading into retirement...
And Hingis beat them BOTH at the 2001 Australian Open, and Hingis was almost retired from tennis by then!
After the 2001 AO, Hingis played only 5 more slams before retiring in 2002 (and returned in 2006).

I hope she can nab quite a number of slams and I’ve been following her game for 2 years now but I don’t like to jump the gun and anticipate anything, we’ve seen it on both tours, a future star who looks set to dominate but it doesn’t turn out.

I don’t think Mirra will faulter like them but I’m not ready to declare her a 10+ slam winner.

I thought Mirra would make the RG final last year but she got embarrassed by Paolini of all people in the SF losing 6-3 6-1. So let’s wait and see how she translates from this hard court form to the clay season. Rome and Madrid will be interesting and Iga is still queen of clay even if she’s faltered elsewhere.

Still very early days but exciting days ahead on the WTA tour! :D

Mirra is the best bet to be the next #1. But she’s also a bit thin and spider-limbed, which makes it tougher to dominate across a range of conditions.

It feels absolutely ludicrous of me to say this about a 17 year old who’s only played 8 slam main draws and made the 4R at four of them but she’s had some surprise losses. Winning back to back 1000s so young is insanely good and very promising but we’ve seen this with other players (obviously not this young) but Svitolina won like 3 1000 titles in a year and never made a slam SF in that season.

Also Dubai and Indian Wells are hard court, RG will be clay so we need to see how she goes in Rome and Madrid this year.

We know she’s good on clay having made her first slam SF at the French last year but she got a tad embarrassed by Paolini in that SF who she really should have beaten easily. So I’m waiting to see how she fares on the clay before RG. But she’s in my top 3 for the title for sure right now. If she can win Rome or Madrid, I’ll be getting my hopes up.

In my opinion, she appears to have a stronger technical team helping her compared to the other top gals. I expect this will translate to a rapid rise to #1.

Conchita Martinez is on a roll with her. I watched them in Brisbane and they were just in synch. Completely different when Conchita was coaching Muguruza and then Pliskova years later.

Mirra wants to learn from her and they understand eachother and it’s so promising to see. I’m honestly super excited to see where it goes. I’m just trying to not get my hopes up cause I’ve been burnt before haha. But I love Andreeva’s game and attitude and style. The way nothing seems to phase her is incredible.

What do you mean bit thin

She is 17 and looks very strong.
She and her sister are both in top 10 strongest aces in past AO and the girl can muscle the ball out already.

She is not thin at all.

Hingis was one of the craftiest players to grace a tennis court. Andreeva has shown us great versatility but can't touch Martina there, not to speak of the net skills, however she is more athletic and hits a bigger ball. Fair to say that among the WTA elite she leans most towards the Hingis archetype.
Bencic to me was Hingis like.

thin? I thought she looked over developed for a 17-yr old and if not training she could easily gain weight. (TV is not in wide screen mode either)
spider-limbed and thin is good ..... Jannik
They say Mirra has worked on her footwork and these are the results? it means a lot more good will happen.
