Andrey Rublev, will he win a big title?

These TC desk analysts seem to think Rublev is near winning a M1000 this year. Do you agree with them? I honestly don’t see it happening provided he got demolished by a younger player at Miami, by that of Jannik Sinner. He has not improved his game whatsoever, is mentally fragile and his second serve sucks

This year? It's going to be very very tough. The thing with Rublev is that he is his own worst enemy, and at times out there he will implode on the most minor of things. I understand he is working more on that aspect of his game and he is trying to be positive, stating all the stuff off court has been heading in the right direction...but he still needs to make the on court stuff head that way too. As it stands, there is a not single masters that I think I can put him in the top 4 or 5 if everyone is playing.

Same here, Sinner is much better than him and Holger at his best is also better than Rublev, Fritz is better too. Ruud is a greater factor on clay when both are at their best and also you have outsiders like tiafoe, FAA

Doubtful if the players in the top 5 play to form. Beating two players from the top 5 back to back is going to be tough for him.
I think the TC commentators were just being nice. They all know that Rublev isn’t a top 5 contender anywhere

Rublev needs to be concerned about staying in the top 8 the way I see it, or at least the top 10. Alcaraz, Sinner and Rune are here to stay, so that is three spots, Medvedev, Tsitsipas are simply better players, that is another two spots, Djokovic is Djokovic that is another spot, Zverev will be making his way back into top 10 as he has nothing but points to gain post RG, that is another spot, and then you have Fritz who is maturing as a player, FAA hanging around, Korda will be knocking on that door soon, Tiafoe will be looking for a push, Berrettini is going to bounce back.....

Lets not also forget, Djokovic will be back in NA from now on, so he adds to the challenges in Canada and Cincinnati this year also.

Not mentioning Nadal in that sense, because we don't know for sure his situation, but even he could be back in the mix.

Honestly he has made no effort to improve his game whatsoever. The only reason why he’s managed to stay top ten is because he plays more tournaments than the majority of players. When was the last time he went to a masters final? Like 2021?

Yeah I definitely think the TC commentators were trying their best to be nice and not to disrespect him. Right now he’s playing at a top 15 level, not even top 10. He’s top 10 because of the amount of tournaments he plays. I picked no and I also don’t see him making a masters final either

He is 26 now I think, so he is heading rapidly towards 30, which means there are going to be more and more younger players coming onto the tour, and many of them maturing quickly. We already know of a few players that have already surpassed him. I like the guy, wears his heart on his sleeve, brutally honest with himself but I think he is very uncomfortable to try new things. He cannot rely on his massive forehand to win big titles, the depth is growing, we are seeing it happen.

He going to find his place in the top 15 soon, and I think that will be it. That is really where he will sit, as a top 15 player. A good player, but not really great. I would love to see him pick up a masters title, really should have at least one.

Yup and his second serve sucks.

A lot of holes, sadly too many to win big titles. I don't want to mercilessly write him off here, but the depth is increasing on the tour, and it is increasing quickly. His peers are overall better players than him, and the younger generation top guns are also better than him. He needs either a truly massive breakdown in the draw or a complete revamp of his game, something I cannot see coming. His game is based around that forehand, take it away and he is in trouble and as you said, second serve is just too much of a glaring weakness....add in his mental issues and ability to self destruct and it is not good.

You could see the sadness in his eyes when he got demolished by Sinner. I think he’s slowly starting to accept the reality he may never win a big title

Has anyone seen Rublev change his tactics or strategy when he faces different opponents, during a match, when he changes surfaces etc.?

It's not even massive. He just takes it really early, but his speeds aren't as big as you'd think. But yes. Stefanos wasn't lying about BWEH's "limited tools that he has"

Yeah it’s really sad. Whenever he feels overpowered (like in the Sinner match in Miami) all he thinks to do is hit harder and Sinner hits harder than he does and doesn’t look like he’s dying when he’s hitting the shot. He then just suddenly implodes

Exactly. If you play enough mickey mouse tournaments today, you can inflate your ranking pretty high this year. Both guys have a zero percent chance of winning a slam though
Has Rublev taken a set from a big 3 member from a slam? All I remember is that whenever he gets to the QF stage he always gets demolished and dismissed in straight sets

Next 3 masters he has little chance. His linear shots, I don't know how they worked on clay before. But a good clay courter can definitely outlast his brainless ball bashing.
I see him not as threatening even on hard courts, forget slower clay. But on hard courts he has better chances.
He won't be the worst masters winner in recent memory. That would be Jack Sock. But he would be not much better than Isner Hurkacz and Fritz.

I'd just like to see him get past the QFs of a slam.
All of his losses have been in straight sets except the Cilic match. And by right he shouldn’t have played the Cilic match because Sinner was blowing him off the court before his knee injury in which he was forced to retire in the fourth round at Roland Garros last year.

I see him as a top 15 level player who’s top ten due to his tenacity to play many 500s and 250s which he seems to win. I think that’s his ceiling, no big titles with his poor mentality, no variety and weak second serve. His ceiling at the majors seems to be a QF too. I think whenever he gets to the QF he should expect to be blown off the court in straight sets, same applies to Ruud. Top 15 level player

Ruud may potentially develop into a good top 5 player. His fh was always amazing and he has at least some variety. For now I agree with Ruud. Maybe top 10 but not top 5.

Rublev is too limited.

I think he did play good tennis in WTF. If he is able to bring that sort of tennis where he beat Medvedev and Tsitsi I see him winning at least one masters. Also he is a very likeable player so I am bit biased at this point.

He was a SFist in the Hurkacz Miami run, best player remaining, and didn't close the deal. Doubt he has a better opportunity.

He wasn’t better than Sinner at the time. Despite Sinner having the lower ranking he was already better than Rublev. Now the gap has widened immensely
