Will Arthur Fils be Alcaraz's biggest rival?

Watched him at Indian Wells a few months ago and was impressed by serve, FH and speed. But his BH and returns don’t stand out as top 5 level and he seems to get upset a lot with himself. So I think he still has some developing to do to become an elite player. He has a man’s body though for someone so young and that physicality should help him.

I like Fils and he seems to be making progress, but I still laughed at the question. He's comparatively done very little in his career compared to Alcaraz, Sinner, even compared to Rune or FAA or Tiafoe and some other low to mid-20s players. He has ONE decent Slam result that happened a little over a week ago. Would be cool if he could make himself part of the conversation, but I'm not counting on that happening yet quite yet. I need to see more. But, good on him - he seems to be progressing.

He's younger than all those guys

he's definitely progressing but he's still very far off of top 20 guys, although he's only 20 and he still has many years to breakout.

A fairly typical thread. Fils has some great qualities but also some big holes. What worries me for him is that the holes are things (very) difficult to fix at his age, most of all the return of serve.

Rune can crush a weak serve like few others but has troubles to win a lot of points in his return games and Fils was worse last time I checked. So the stat head says almost impossible…

He’s too emotional to achieve anything of note. He beat an injured Zverev who almost retired in the first set. And he showed some ugly traits unbecoming of a sportsman.

zverev was the only one complaining lol
Were you watching? Fils came very close to seated Zverev. I didn’t hear what they were saying but it was a menacing body language from Fils. Did you see the umpire jumping from his chair to pull Fils away? I wish he hadn’t.

yes, because zverev said something to him while going to his bench. he's a certified sore loser and a cry baby.

Zverev is always injured when he loses, it happened to him at Wimbledon and now in Hamburg.
Better that he not play in Paris so as not to hear the same from his fans.

Fils is definitely moving up in the world after defeating Zverev to claim his first ATP500 at Hamburg and crack the top 20!

Indeed, that medical break at 1:4 was just to break Fils dominating rhythm.
Didn't seem to have a real problem throughout the match.
On the other hand, I like Fils game and energy he brings on-court but of course he still needs some adjustments.

2 titles in two years isn't really a strong showing. He's way too moody and that can cause streaks in his play. Shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as Alcz or Sinner.

He showed his true colors in the NextGen Finals last year. So much entitlement, nearly Rune level
Worse than Rune I think, because he has very aggressive body language while Rune doesn’t direct his aggression towards the opponent.

Idk. He’s just won a 500 while sinner and rune have grand slam and masters titles.

Sure fils has probably passed a struggling Rune at the moment. But right now he’s what top 25? He needs more results on hard courts and in bigger tournments. Winning 500 a week after grand slam is meh.

played well though, beat Zverev who made the RG final and is world no.4...

There’s plenty of players that beat top guys in an atp 500 though. Fils has talent. But hasn’t played merely deep enough in tournments recently as zverev. I’m not a zverev fan but he shouldn’t have played considering the knee injury and fall he took in Wimbledon.
