I think in a couple of years he will have matured and will be ready to win a slam, hes so young at heart

I was gonna say no but after taking a second to comment about bananas I noticed he came back to win the second set off Medvedev. So yes.

Yeah hes playing great right now against medvedev, slicing a lot, not giving him pace and pulling the trigger in the right moments, i really think he will have a chance at a slam in two or three years, promising talent

Is this 2014 again?

Well hes still the same as in 2014 xD so i guess we can say the same thing over and over, dimi is one of those players that matures at 35, so the best is yet to come, i predict a couple of slams for him
Jokes aside, I wouldn't mind if someone who plays the good tennis takes over after the Big 3.

Nah, can't see it. His best chance may have been Wim '14 when he came close to taking Novak to 5 in the semis if I recall correctly but I can't see the stars aligning now there are plenty of younger players capable of beating him

No. His "prime" has long since passed and one win over a recent slam winners does not suddenly change that. I still remember the early days when people called him baby fed and predicted him to be a multi-slam winner and he continued to be a nobody until he somehow managed to snag that ATP final win and people predicted it might finally be the turning point but nope, he arguably started to play even worse after that.

I think he was closer at AO’17. Had he won that fifth set vs The Nadal he would have tremendous confidence and game to match fedr in the final. Dimi would have entered the final on a 11-match winning streak and was being coached by Dani Vallverdu, part of Team Murray that helped Muzz win OG at London’12 in a rout of fedr.

No too injury prone now at Majors. He liked to party and liked the ladies so much like Safin he did not achieve what his talent suggested he should. But everyone is different. He has enjoyed life and chose his own path.
Grigolo has had girlfriends but he wasn’t the Safin party animal type, staying for the most part monogamous for the past decade with Serena, Sharapova, Nicole Scherzinger and current squeeze Lolita Osmanova. 4 mates in 10 years is not mileage inducing behavior IMO.

His latest bouts with mediocrity haven’t been injury related. He has been a long hauler Walrus victim and is now just shaking the side effects. To play two superior quality matches in consecutive tournaments (loss in 3 at SD to Ruud, now the win vs Med) is a good sign but the next step can’t be made until AO’22…big wins in Bo5 matches. They require a totally different level of stamina and who can be sure his body is ready for it? He was fine in Melbourne (QF) but just 2-3 at the other three slams.

I doubt he wins one but I think he can be a big hurdle for many of the higher seeds in the draws.

Historically you could site Gimeno who won his first at age 34 in 1972. Given the state of the tour it's possible we see more of that as with more recent examples Korda and Gomez were at 30 giving Dimi little time.

He needs to convert secondary titles to gain steam though. If he won IW for example right now and say WTF and primed himself for AO.

Dimitrov still won a WTF's and got to World Number 3. To me he's like the Tommy Haas of this era which isn't disparaging as Haas got to number 2 in the world in 2001.

I have those pants and get tons of compliments on them. lol

He could definitely win one. Freaking Dominic Thiem won a Slam, and IMO Grigolo is a much more talented player, just far less consistent and disciplined.

Grigor Dimitrov is infinitely less talented than Dominic Thiem. Thiem is a star player, Dimitrov is also ran. Power matters. This is not some ballet dance.

It’s not far fetched that he could win one or two slams if the planets align in his favor. Tennis is looking horrible as of late.

Tell that to Federer?

Thiem is a brutal ball-basher, he WAS a star player but that is over now. Being too powerful can hurt you. See Boom-Boom, DelPo and now Thiem: all had their careers permanently diminished by wrist injuries. You'll see about Thiem.

I've said it before and say it again, if the stars really align for him he has the qualities to take advantage. Much like how he won the YECs. It's safe to say Dimi is no big match player vs the absolute best but if the stars perfectly aligns for him and a draw opens up with favs out he can snatch a major. But the probability isn't very high though.

Where did Federer come into question?

Delpo and Thiem are big power hitters and both have won the US Open. Not too bad. Of course, without power its not even possible to win. Even the pusher Medvedev has big serve and can crush the ball when needed to.
