Will Djokovic ever beat Nadal at Roland Garros? Nadal only needed one knee to win it

Nadal said he had no feeling in his knee during the Roland Garros final (after receiving numbing injections). And now Nadal promises to play less hardcourt events and focus on clay more than ever.

Did Djokovic miss his only opportunity to win Roland Garros? (although its hard to call it an "opportunity" considering the match didn't even go 5 sets)

What are the odds of Nadal dropping a set in 2013 Roland Garros?

He only dropped one set at Roland Garros 2012 (and no sets at Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Rome).

I'm so impressed that he's now decided to focus on clay and skip some hardcourt events. The implications are astronomical.

The odds are legit high. We don't know his current form.

tbh, Nadal is eventually going to be dethroned in a FO final.

Similar to Nadal dethroning Federer in 2008 Wimbledon.

When that ever happens is a different story to be told.

I'm actually liking Nadal's chances for AO (sayin his chances are good (better than Federer and probably Murray) but still going for Feddy). Despite lack of competitive practise, I think he will be refreshed and if he survives the first week, he'll start to get back to strong form after dem warm-ups.

He'll most likely steamroll Murray or Federer if he meets them in semis (that's if he survives until then) but if he meets Djokovic in the semis then it'll suck really bad for him.

I think this is what Nadal should hope for:
1 vs 3 - Djokovic vs Murray
2 vs 4 - Federer vs Nadal

Murray somehow pulls off the miracle win. (He's capable of defeating Djokovic)

Federer loses again to Nadal.. sadly :(

Then Nadal spanks Murray causing dat brit to lose yet another major final.

Nadal couldn't bring his Roland Garros 2008 form into 2009, so what's to say he won't bring his 2012 RG form into 2013?

Looks doubtful. Nadal regained the mental edge in the 5th set of AO2012 final, losing a 7-5 fifth set, and Nadal proved this by beating Djokovic 3 straight times on clay to prove that Nadal won't ever have any competition on clay. The world's second best clay-courter could at best get a set off Nadal, and that was in rainy, swamp-like conditions (which WON'T be happening again next year). So with a fully fit Nadal, and normal playing conditions, Nadal will continue to break records.

What about when Sampras' coach died?

I know nothing about Sampras or how close he was with his coach (apart from that Agassi beat Sampras in the 1995 Australian Open final, a few days after Sampras cried in the Courier match). Nadal has been very honest about how close he is to his parents, and he has lived with them, since birth. You know how children respond to divorce.

Yes, but he was in his 20s. He wasn't 8.

The bond is the same in Nadal's family, regardless of age. This is not an American or Australian family dynamic.
So the bond with his parent's would be closer than that of people from a predominantly white nation? Is that seriously what you're saying?

Only needed one knee? He seemed to be running along just fine in that final. He was fit to play, therefore the knee excuse to try and amplify the win is void.

I've said it before, but I guess I just need to say it again. Do you seriously not understand how absolutely ridiculous you sound? I am in neither camp and just like tennis, but you sound like a complete idiot.

Don't mind Rafa2005. He's trolling, just like Clarky. Put him on ignore list.

This year he's going to focus on actually winning all his matches in Madrid, and not worry about sets.

Do you understand how different family life is in Spain compared to America/Australia? America/Australia it is common for people to move out as soon as they reach 18 (especially America). Spain, not so much.

Djokovic played one of his worst RGs ever. He was lucky he even made the finals. He should've gone out to Tsonga in the QF. Seppi should've gotten him sooner.

LOL Djokovic was in his only ever RG final. Technically it was his best RG ever, as he was too weak to make the final any other year.

Whaaa? What kind of 2-way rasist statment is this? You excluded the American African and Australian Aboriginal from the US/Ausi nations? And, FYI, Spanish are white, of Mediterranean type.

hm, that rain helped Nadal as Novak had some momentum at RG 2012. if that match went to 5 sets anything could've happened. Djokovic played **** btw.

I firmly believe that Novak can def. Rafa at RG 2013.

The 'only needed one knee to win it' is hyperbole and not at all accurate. His knee was functional. It was painful. He had injections so he couldn't feel the pain, which let him play without inhibition. Ergo, his performance wasn't inhibited.

Djokovic can beat Nadal at Roland Garros. That isn't to say he actually ever will. Nadal is the greatest clay court player in the history of the game, and beating him over 5 sets is even more difficult than over 3. It's a tough ask for anyone.

I didn't say "white nation". I was saying the majority of people are white from those nations, and I am not incorrect. Don't accuse me of racism when you don't even know what you're talking about.

Anyway to answer the question I would say yes. I expect Djokovic to win 1 or 2 French Opens in the next 4 years (with Nadal obviously winning the other 2 or 3, there are no other possible winners in the near future). To do so would almost certainly require beating Nadal to do it, so yes he will atleast once.

I think it would have to be inevitable. Rafa's is already on French Open title Number 7.. His run is bound to end eventually. I mean how long can he go? Nole will eventually get him if he puts himself in the position to do it.

Once you hit the 7 slam mark on one surface, you're game should tend to DROP dramatically. (See Sampras and Federer who's level dropped big time after Wimbledon title 6 and Pete's dropped after wimbledon #7)

I think Nadal's got 1-2 more French OPen title runs in him but I also expect him to be more vulnerable there the next 2-4 years (If he plays another 4 years that is)

Exactly and there is nobody new to win Roland Garros until atleast 2017 probably so Djokovic has to win atleast 1, maybe multiple.

I agree. Nole is going to get SEVERAL more cracks at the French Open in the next 4-5 years. That is definitely for certain.. No one is even close to Nadal and Nole's current level at the French Open IMO barring some injury to Nole.

Who else is there really? Ferrer is OLD and he can't beat Nole there anyways.. Murray is not on a clay elite level, not even close. Fed is OLD. Theres no one else right now.

If Nole ends with any less then 2 French Open titles in the next 4-5 years. I will be shocked.

Well, all I can conclude from your other post is that you do not consider Spanish people as white and ignoring large non-white population of USA.
African Americans constitute about 12% of the USA's population, while Mexican Americans are about 10% (for this purpose I'd consider Mexicans as mix of Spanish ancestry and Native American). About 2% are Native American or of Native ancestry. Close to 6% are Asian or of Asian ancestry. This gives you 30% of non-white population, without even counting Puerto-Rican and other Central and South Americans, which would add another 4-5%.
Spain has about 12% immigrants (non-white and white) and about 10% people of Moorish ancestry.
This gives you the reverse picture of which one is a predominantly white nation...
So, who now doesn't know what he's talking about?

For the record, I'm neither Spanish, nor of African ancestry.

RG finals this year was interesting. Nadal had his best running shoes on because Djokovic was blasting those balls in every part of the court. Nadal was pushing like he's never pushed before. It was nice to see Djokovic 2.0 show up in that 3rd set. Would've been fun to see what might have happened if they had met in 2011 RG when Djokovic was playing at a higher level while Nadal was mentally shaken.

What do you need for the title at Roland Garros? One knee! :)

Djokovic will beat Nadal in the near future, I'm pretty sure about that.

I think that's a more realistic question. Clay would however be his ONLY chance. I would love to see Nadal, if he even plays, make it to play Novak in the AO and get completely abused.

There's a strong chance Nadal could meet Djokovic in the semifinals at the AO next year. That would rock! Another 6 hour epic!!! :)
