Will djokovic fans make today win like something very very big?

Nadal looks worn and old. He had no chance with a back to back at this stage of his career. Idiots just ****ed up probably their last match with horrendous scheduling

I don't think the schedule has had much of an impact tbh. Imo, he's looked and performed at a mediocre level (for him to be), all clay season. Yes, he got to the finals in Båstad, but his performance was lackluster, and his movement has been slow all season. Novak's just exposing it so much better than other players, because he hits deep and fast, and doesn't let the foot of the gas.

You can't say it hasn't had an impact. Nadal's movement looks compromised and he's spraying errors everywhere. I'm not sure even with a day's rest, it would have been enough to beat Djokovic today but he surely would have put up a better showing!

Nadal has no business here but that's what his fans (this forum) asked for.

Djoko gave consolation games each set, to make Nadal look respectable.

No. It was too old men who are quickly approaching retirement go at it one last time. It’s just one of the old men is closer to retiring than the other, who’s still kicking around.

Don't worry guys, Nadal still hasn't said he will retire.

You'll have plenty of occasions to watch the journeyman continue his journey and get battered in the early rounds

Why would it be a big win. He has beaten Nadal the most times a player has been beaten by any other player in open era. We know that feeling. lol
This only adds to the count.

No, it's not huge as a win. Just a chance to move to R3. A loss would've been devastating though. Another early exit at the Olympics, and to a Nadal that hasn't played his best tennis.

Such is the case with matches you're expected to win.

You lose and all doomsayers come to party. You win, it’s just another day at office. Life of a top level sportsman.

It was a must win for Novak. It not a win to brag about as he should win and it wasn’t a final or anything.

It more relief he won but he’s going to have to play more consistent if he wants a shot at a medal.

He played well for parts of match but that collapse from 4-0 and that type of level can’t be repeated if he wants s chance against the best players in world in Alcaraz and Zverev.

Agreed. Though I think he is looking in better form as compared to Wimbledon. The surgery is now a thing of the past. Also it’s bo3.

Till 6-1,4-0 it was just unreal good performance. Laser backhands and crazy court coverage. A minor lapse and it became 4-4. As you rightly put, can’t let this happen against the top contenders.

I agree. The good news is he’s physically stronger now and his level of play increased.

I put what happened at 4-0 down to complacency, still nadal factor and putting him away on Chatrier, crowd pressure and just remaining focused.

The collapse though might help him focus better in next round. I liked his tennis for most part though and he seems to be moving better and more time after the surgery. That’s the main thing is he fit and playing better. He just needs to curb the mental walk abouts! lol

It is absolutely big in the sense that losing would have looked really really bad and would have equalized the H2H.

It's still a win on clay at Rafa's beloved Chatrier

In a weird way Nadal can do him a favor by having a deep doubles run and tiring Alcaraz

It would be very big, because Rafans were hoping to tie the match-up 30 apiece, and it might be the last one.

That is actually a really good point. I have Alcaraz favourite for singles despite this. You are correct though a deep run in the doubles for Alcaraz could distract him a bit and help Novak.

I do think Zverev is going to be a big problem too. Novak is likely is going to have to beat both if he makes semi final which will be tough. He’s a long way off that though and it’s round of 16 to focus on.

I expect Nadal and Alcaraz to go far in doubles. They looked good especially when Alcaraz settled more.
