Was just about to say it. I remember the third round against Nishikori was his only match I managed to watch prior to the final. Everything else was well past European midnight.I believe so yes. The reasons he was used in the night slots for the AO (beyond just preference) were because Kyrgios pulled out last minute, Carlos and Nadal were absent due to injury, and Barty retired, leaving basically no viable Aussie or even big name on the Djokovic half to fill the seats at the lucrative night session.
The US Open simply does not have that problem. They can put guys like Tiafoe, Fritz, maybe even Tommy Paul on Ashe, and more importantly, there will be the Venus show as well as a plethora of American women or former champs to choose from.
He’ll likely get mostly night matches but definitely at least a day match or so. In 2021 he played Nishikori in the afternoon iirc.
That may be his preference but I’m pretty sure the other players will have their own preferences as well. Why should he be accommodated over others? He will no doubt get some night and some day slots as it’s normally shared around isn’t it?Ave He needs to play during the day early on for sure. I am almost certain he will ask for it. Last thing he needs is to be shell shocked by the changes in conditions in a very high profile match against a tough opponent.
He’s the biggest draw in the tournament by far, and the biggest legend. Fed got privileges late in his career too. That may be his preference but I’m pretty sure the other players will have their own preferences as well. Why should he be accommodated over others? Even if he is, which is arguable, there are fans who want to see him play who have tickets for day matches. I’m sure they sell out the main courts all day every day anyway. Carlos is the world No 1 and the defending champion. After his WB win, he may be a bigger draw as people have seen Djokovic for the last 15 years. He’s the biggest draw in the tournament by far, and the biggest legend. I think I covered that in my reply to @TheNachoManBecause he is box office, one of the greatest players of all time and all eyes will be on him and Alcaraz.
The money makers always get to have a say. This sport is about making money at the end of the day.
I think I covered that in my reply to @TheNachoMan
Yeah, I say this as someone desperately strategizing the best day to go to the US Open, I’ve settled on the first Thursday and maybe a 4R/QF. This is a) to avoid the Labor Day crowds and prices and b) to confirm that the night session will be a top player in a non-walkover match. Was just about to say it. I remember the third round against Nishikori was his only match I managed to watch prior to the final. Everything else was well past European midnight.
I think I misinterpreted your original comment that I replied to.In regards to your response.
Firstly, Djokovic and Alcaraz are on opposite sides of the draw and make no mistake, they are the biggest names on their respective days. They will both play on Ashe only, and both will be able to have a big say in when they go on. USO will want to make sure that their two biggest box office draws stay in the event as long as possible, they want a piece of that Cincinnati magic.
As for why they would want to see Djokovic after he has been there for 15 years? LOL Are you serious? His has become even more legendary than ever before, holds the slam record, is coming back after not playing last year, and he doesn't have many more years left. A lot of people will want to see him, the guy was in crazy demand in Cincy and people were cheering him more than Carlos there.
They will both likely have day and night matches, as they will want others to have night sessions on Ashe also, like Medvedev former USO champion, Sinner who just won Canada, Zverev, Rune etc.
I think I misinterpreted your original comment that I replied to.

Hard to predict. Because ultimately the tickets for a Tiafoe-Sabalenka night session cost as the same as the ones for an Alcaraz-Venus one.
