will djokovic win a slam this year?

thoughts after yesterdays final. This is not funny anymore, he is losing slam finals left and right, what happened in the second set vs rafa??

Last year he chokes in the 3rd set vs nadal at the us open, he is up a break vs wawrinka in Australia in the 5th set and then makes 4 unforced errors in a row, plays the most pathetic final I have ever seen last year at Wimbledon

What is going on?? this guy cant play slam finals

Nadal is still superior to him in the slams. Dj can win the matches at all the non-slams he likes, but when it comes to the slams, he can't beat Nadal.

Boris Becker is essentially pointless- he was supposedly brought in to help Dj at the important/crucial moments in a match. The double fault on championship point was a huge egg-in-face moment for Dj and his team.

I think he is the favourite to win USO and also favourite to win the WTF, since indoors is prob. where Nadal is the least impressive. Don't start feeling sorry for Djokovic, he's still the best player on HC out there if he's mentally in the game.

what if nadal loses early?

Dj was the bookies' favourite to win the last 4 slams, but he didn't end up winning any of them. He's also the favourite for each of the next 3 slams- but it's only a matter of time before that all changes.

but when it comes to the slams, he can't beat Nadal.

Oh, please, not this nonsense again, this typical overreactions from the Nadal brigade. He he did beat him in the slams and he will also beat him in the future. Djokovic had a mentall collapse since 4-4 in the second set, Nadal was calm and steady, always present, but with plenty of mistakes too. That was the match, not the kind of game to draw bold conclusions like "Djokovic can't beat Nadal in the slams" from.

How its going to change? DJokovic is the most dominant guy on the tour in the past 4 years and his losing variation its going to end sooner than later. He maybe 0-4 against Nadal in Slams but three of them came in Paris which is a fact that it shouldnt be ignore because it wouldnt be better if he lost in the early rounds and be only 0-1 against Nadal.

Its like saying nadal cant beat djokovic in the masters events because djokvoic has won there last 4 meetings, seriously some nadal fans

To be fair you can kind of see why the bookies go with Djoko - his consistency.

Dj hasn't beaten Nadal in a slam since AO 2012, over 2 years ago (and Nadal was up 4-2 30-15 there, too). Since then:

Nadal d. Dj at Roland Garros 2012 (4 sets)
Nadal d. Dj at Roland Garros 2013 (5 sets, and Nadal served for the match in the 4th set)
Nadal d. Dj at US Open 2013 (4 sets)
Nadal d. Dj at Roland Garros 2014 (4 sets)

This isn't 2011 anymore. No more slam wins for Dj over Nadal. Heck, Dj's slam-winning days are probably over, too.

That's because he wasn't prepared mentally. But that can change, since Djokovic is a peculiar player. If he gets into a great form for 1 month in the summer he can surely beat Nadal on hard. IMO, on hard, Novak is the better player. Djokovic just has to be convinced he can beat Nadal in his head, because, on the court, he sure has the weapons to do that.

wait for Wimbledon or more likely us open. Nadal is not playing well enough to beat djokovic at the us open unless djokovic chokes again like last year.

Nadal needed even fewer sets to take out Dj at Roland Garros this year, and in 2 out of their 3 meetings, Nadal has taken Dj out in 4 at the US Open. Nadal flipped the mental switch in his head for the second week of Roland Garros, and once he does that, it's game over for Dj.

As for Dj choking, Dj was never in any major position to take control of the match, apart from in the 4th set when Nadal quickly recovered and snatched it away from him. The match was very much on Nadal's terms (like all of the recent Nadal-Dj slam encounters).

Do you notice that 3/4 wins are on RG?

Nadal has more wins at RG, Djokovic has more wins at AO, Nadal has more wins at USO. If Djokovic ties the USO h2h, Than each player has more victories at his pet slam. Again, Djokovic has met Nadal on his favourite slam 6 times, while Nadal has met Djokovic on his favourite turf only once. It's the same scenario as in Fed-Nad, with Nadal meeting his opponents in the slams mostly where he is the top dog, at Roland Garros, and less times where he is not that comfortable. Just proves that Nadal on clay >> Nadal anywhere else.

Well Nadal can beat them on their turfs, but they can't beat him on his turf.

I even favor Nadal over Nole at AO if he is healthy

Djokovic has not won a slam outside Australia for 2 and a half years.

He has not won a GS for a year now.

He has not beaten a Big 4 player outside of AO for 2 years.

He has not beaten a Big 4 player in a slam for a year now.

Things really are not looking good for him. He can't even push slam finals to 5 sets anymore.

Let's apply some logic. Djokovic, statistically played his best tennis at the AO. At the AO, iirc, the h2h is 1-0 (correct me if I'm wrong). Djokovic is yet to lose against Nadal on his favourite slam. I know Nadal won his 9th FO title, but let's just keep things real and look at the way the games between them in slams are distributed.

He made the most finals in that timeframe. USO, AO, WIM, RG. Made 4 finals out of the last 6 major tournaments he played, won AO 2013, semifinal in RG 2013, final in WIM 2013, final in USO 2013, quarterfinal in AO 2014, final in RG 2014.

Do you know that Djokovic has combined 70 top 10 wins in the past 3 years? Do you know that Djokovic has combined 35 wins from 76 matches against the two all time greats which probably eventually would end in his favour. If you consider Federer a big 4 how can Djokovic beat him in the Slam since Roger never ever maded to Novak since Wimbledon 2012 or Murray whom since June 2013 has ZERO top 10 wins. The only guy he couldnt beat is Nadal, whom he meet 75% in Paris on clay. Novak played 6 times Rafa in Paris, 1 time in Australia, 2 times in London and 3 times in New York. Do you see the difference?

Fact of the matter is, he's consistent but not as a champion. Sort of like a glorified David Ferrer if you will.

Nadal is also not consistent as a slam champion outside RG. He has 1 USO/AO/WIM win in the last 3 years. That's very low for a player that's supposed to be the best in the world on all surfaces (I don't think he is).

6-0 at RG for Rafa is not the same as 1-0 for Djok at AO.

They practically played just 1 match at AO while they played 6!!! at FO.

He could not beat Murray at USO, W, Nadal at RG, USO.

Forget about Fed. He had chances to beat Murray and Nadal and failed

It is. Both are 100% win percentages. The fact that Nadal got beaten by the likes of Tsonga, Ferrer and Murray is his fault, not Djokovic's. If anything, it shows Djokovic is more consistent on RG than Nadal is on AO.

I agree, djokovic would have beaten nadal in every one of those years had nadal got to the final

You talk about Murray like he is some teenager with 5-20 record on the Tour. He meet Nadal two times at the French and people say that this is probably the hardest task in sport to beat Rafa there and he was so close of winning in those occasion, who can do better. The only match that he should be angry is in New York which he throw away in the third set after being in commanding position.

Novak is trying even after all the beats he suffered from Nadal at the french, which is respectable.

I don't care much about those ifs and woulds, but I think that, in order to make a fair judgement on a h2h between player x and player y, and draw conclusions from that judgment, there needs to be some balance, some righteousness. Not one payer -- who happens to be the best clay courter of all time -- playing twice as much games on RG than in any other slam against his main rivals.

IMO, that's such a huge advantage for Nadal that I can't even put any value on the slam h2h between him and Djokovic (and even Federer for that matter). But I give Nadal credit that, when at his best, could beat any player everywhere, except maybe prime Federer at WIM and USO.

I think he should fire Becker - he is useless for him. I understand he was tired of long term coaching by Vajda and needed a change but this is not working.

This is all well and good but the fact remains that he's lost five of his last six GS finals and has only won two of his slams away from the AO, which he is now no longer invincible at. He's turned a 5-2 record in GS finals into a 6-7 record very quickly.

He's a great player and found a mental edge in 2011 which he needs to find again.
