It's highly debatable that Djokovic is a better tennis player than Federer. There is no way to actually know this since their primes didn't really overlap. The only phase were both were playing at close to their best levels was 2011-12 and it was dead even in both the years between them. Anything from 2006-10 or 2013-present cannot be used to judge who is a better Tennis player since one of the two players were below their best. If anything, Djokovic is getting an extended shot at beating a relatively weak Federer. This Djokovic would not have beaten 2012 Federer at Wimbledon. The match would probably not even have gone 5. We'll never really know.
Very fair comment.

forget about major, i'm wondering if he will ever beat him again period. i cant believe there has come a point where I'm far more comfortable with fedal (not that I enjoy it) than djokerer when the latter was far more evenly matched once upon a time.

that user also thinks fed is a better player now than he was during his peak so i can't take anything they say seriously.

with that being said, its definitely very close and I can see why people think novak at his peak is the best especially with these more recent conditions.

Your putting into perspective doesn't account for the 2 years that he wasn't worth beating/getting far enough in slams to get beat by them. Nor the fact he just got beat at Roland Garros in borderline embarrassing fashion rather than putting himself into position to get beat by one of them.

Let's put something else into perspective. Federer is ANCIENT. In tennis terms if a guy that age is still playing he should be struggling to make the top 100, not losing the longest final in Wimbledon history to the worlds number 1 player. The fact that he is doing that is ridiculous, and worthy of bags of praise rather than just reducing the entire conversation to a win-loss record against a guy in his mid to late 30s.

As for Nadal, he was indeed literally a whisker away from doing it at Wimbledon a year ago on his worst surface. Do we completely ignore that on account of the beating in Australia?

Nadal can definitely meet Djokovic at French open. It's not nadal's fault that djokovic doesn't show up for the finals at RG

TBF. They have played 7 times at RG which is a heck of a lot.

Agreed. But the French open scheduling is atrocious for the top half. djokovic has like 35% chance if both sides of the draw are equally played and well rested. But when the top half is always forced to play back to back days fpr semis and finals, there is virtually no chance against a well rested Nadal at RG.

Fed is still the best player on the planet on real grass (wimby is green clay since 2007), fast HC, and indoors. So fed will beat novak at Halle, Cinci, WTF etc when they meet there again. Unfortunately no slams have these conditions because slow slow slow and slowest is the way to go right, audiences want 150+ stroke baseline rallies.

Djokovic beat Federer at Cincy in 2018 even at Cincy it will be tough. WTF will not be easy to. These days Novak is favoured in most places.

The fact that this is a discussion should prove Fed’s GOATness, and this is coming from a Djokovic fan.

Federer has losing head to heads against both but if you think about it, Federer had to play them when they were at their peaks. Did Nadal and Djokovic ever play peak Federer? No. Nadal did occasionally and people like to use that argument that Nadal was leading the h2h even before 2009. But Federer is known for turning around **** poor head to heads against opponents once he figures them out (ie Hewitt and Nalbandian). If Federer had played Nadal more during his peak or they were in the same generation, I believe Federer would’ve figured Nadal out and turned the head to head around. As proven in their latest meetings, Federer figured Nadal out and continuously dismantled him. Nadal at RG is a different beast entirely, Djokovic didn’t manage anything against Nadal there either.

As for Djokovic, he never played Federer during his peak years, yet he was still behind in the h2h till 2016.

Obviously Federer’s age is catching up to him and he won’t be able to produce staggeringly good results and dominance that he did back in 2004-2007. But the fact remains that Federer still competed with his greatest rivals when they were peaking and he was regressing. When Sampras was just 30, he was being pushed out by his younger rivals (like Federer), but nobody seems to mention that. Federer staying at the top of his physical form and still competing at the age of 38 shows he’s the GOAT.
