Will Iga Swiatek go on to win 20+ slams and become the next Serena Williams?

I know she's not got the muscularity and huge serve of Serena, but she looks unstoppable right now. On clay she's like the female Nadal. Barty could have stopped her but now she's out of the picture, who is going to beat her? Osaka got destroyed in Miami by Swiatek, so clearly she is not capable. Then who is left?

She also doesn't seem to care about posing half naked for magazine shoots like many of the WTA players love to do, and she doesn't seem like she will get involved in the woke stuff that derailed Osaka's game.

I've noticed Swiatek has the same on-court facial expression as Nadal, and may have intentionally copied it, or has watched so much of Nadal that she's morphed into him facially.
In between points and when returning serve, they look the same.
I'm impressed with how seriously she takes tennis, because a lot of the top women's players of this era are easily distracted. She's different, and should win slams regularly for the next 10+ years and finish with 20+ slams.

Actually TTWers are in-between geniuses, because nobody has voted for 0-2 so far, all the votes are for 6-9, 10-19 and 20+.

She will never come close to Serena's success at the majors. How any can watch swiatek and convince themselves of that is anyone's guess, or its the extremes of fanboy wishing.

Yes, because the outcome of one match determines the head-to-head forevermore. Nope.

No such thing as "woke" to anyone other than those who have knee-jerk and/or violent reactions to a recognotion of history and justice.

Osaka's issues are no different than any player who is not a robot, so there will peaks and valleys in career, not winning everything in sight.

Unfortunately I feel Barty’s retirement will always sort of hang over her career accomplishments as a “what if”. But with this field she has a free run at any title she wants.

It could be, but our Barty really screwed the pooch in the slam just before her maiden.

Let her become the next Justine Henin first.
Actually, let her become the next Kerber first.
Luckily we have already been given a performance list of players to measure Iga up against:

Wozniacki
Azarenka (Kerber)
Mauresmo
Ivanovic
Pierce
Martinez
M. Joe Fernandez
Novotna
Capriati
Vicario
Sharapova
Sabatini
Kournikova
Henin
Hingis
Clijsters

If she maintains her level, I believe she has just about surpassed the bolded

I had forgotten how hard I laughed when I read this list the first time.
Somehow seeing Kournikova there again just below Henin was even funnier the second time, we need Jason back.

Time will tell whether that 6 week period where she cleaned up 3 x 1000 events is sustainable or not. I suspect not. She's already shown in her two matches so far, that her level of performance has dropped off a little.

I still think she'll win 10+ slams though. The competition just isn't good enough at the moment. Now that Barty has retired, Osaka's her closest challenger, peak game-wise, and she got her clock cleaned 4 and 0 on her best surface in Miami.

It'll take someone like Andreescu or one/two/three of the teens to really raise their game over the next couple of years to provide her with some stiff opposition. The older girls have shown they don't have the game or the belief to beat her.

It's a shame such a powerful all-around athlete has such an aesthetically unattractive game to watch. Her technique at times is Medvedev-like. All arms.

Just a tad bit impatient Jokervich? :)
And when Swat-it has a bad match sometime in the next while will you be downgrading her predicted slam count immediately? LOL!

After she becomes the next Davenport, we can talk about whether she will become the next Henin. Then when she becomes the next Henin, maybe Serena if only by default because it's Evert/Navratilova at 18 and Graf at 22/Serena at 23. There is no in-between 12-15 slam pitstop en route.

Actually, yeah, let her first eclipse Barty and then we can talk about the bigger milestones. Rule no.1 in WTA is everyone looks unstoppable until they careen down the cliff edge. I would agree with the argument that there's every indication that Iga is different from every one of the 2-3 slam winners we have seen recently with perhaps the exception of Azarenka who had a brilliant first half of the season in 2012. But that's the point, that's how far we go until we hit the ceiling. Just surpassing Hingis/Henin/Venus/Seles is going to take lots and lots of work and remember nobody other than Henin and Venus themselves have got there since then.

I mean tbh it's not a given that barty would still dominate Iga because barty has always been a little up and down and Iga actually has gotten better after barty's retirement.

she's just too athletic and too good to be stuck at 0-2 and considering how inconsistent the tour is right now she's got a good chance to get to 1-2. but let her get to 3 first before we talk about the next goal. she needs to win one or two this year else it's not gonna be good.

People are forgetting Collins just gave Iga a beatdown at the AO. In her press conference, Iga even said she never played someone who hit the ball as hard as her. Danielle Collins!!

If a semi-peak (I say semi cause of her back strain, but it was still one of her best tournament performances) performance from Collins is enough to beat Iga, that means there are plenty of girls capable of upsetting her if they have their best day. I also don't see Iga playing well into her thirties, I see her taking the Wozniacki route of retiring in her late twenties.

She is certainly capable of anything though....who knows what the tour will look like when she reaches her mid twenties. I already don't recognize half of the top 100...makes me feel old.

Her second serve was awful in the Collins match and her forehand was way too clay court oriented at the AO. She just fought her way to the semies. She has improved considerably since so much to a point that her second serve is probably the best on tour right now.

I do agree that I don’t see her play well into 30s as she relies heavily on her athleticism. She’s gonna achieve a lot more than wozniacki though.
