Rafael Nadal has been ranked number 1 for 115 weeks (I believe). Than ranking is probably safe till after Wimbledon. So he should have roughly 150 weeks secured.

Federer was number one for a record 237 weeks consecutively.

Will Nadal's total surpass Federer's one sitting?

I doubt it.

In the past Nadal has trouble keeping his level high even the whole year.

It takes a great amount of motivation and concentration to be at top level for extended periods.

Quite simply no. He isn't getting any younger and I expect Djokovic to regain the top spot at some stage in the next six months.

No because he has to keep Nole at a bay who is an all year phenom on ALL surfaces.

Fed didn't have to deal with that during his heyday. He only had to keep Nadal at bay (who was still learning to develop his game off of clay) who was not even able to get past the QF of a hardcourt slam at the time.

Fed would have had a major difficult time staying at #1 as well from 2004-2007 if he had this Nole on his butt chasing him all year on all surfaces.

Nadal has to keep a high level up all year regardless of the surfaces. One little slip and Nole is right there to steal the Number 1.

Its kind of funny when people say Nadal needs "x amount of weeks at Number 1". Easier said than done when you got this Nole around who RARELY has a let up all year these days. Hes a force on all surfaces. Fed never dealt with anything like that during his heyday

No, Nadal will man up, play hard courts and tough it out to get about 300 weeks.

He just needs about 4 years of being at Number 1 and the determined player he is, he will do it.

Nadal can achieve anything if he puts his mind to it.

jajja what a joke!!

federer during near 4 years had a guy like nadal winning many many tournis amd putting pression on federer who needed to won near all the tournaments for mantained his nº1.

sampras????? NEVER HAD A GUY LIKE NADAL OR NOLE BEHIND HIM , agassi always was a headcase and was near 2 years outside tennis , he was in drugs , hated tennis and more.

sampras onbly had agassi behind him , nothing in comparassiuon with nadal who is A GOAT and djokovic

I think Nadal will finish with more weeks at #1 than Federer, but there is no point in doing it consecutively, so I doubt Nadal will bother with that meaningless endeavor. Whereas winning slams for 12 or 13 years in a row is worthwhile, and I think Nadal will do that. 2014 will be the 10th straight year.

I'm kind of surprised Nadal speaks so highly of the #1 ranking. Very few people know how many weeks each player has been ranked #1. Only the tennis fanatics know. A lot of tennis fans don't, and the general public generally has no idea. Its all about the slams. But yeah Nadal seems to really care about the #1 ranking. The opposite of Murray's approach.

Nadal knows the ranking is right next to slams in importance.
After being there at #1 it is hard to keep, there's more pressure all the time and no rest.

Very true. Federer played many fragile minded players in his time

He will unless Murray or DelPo can challenge him. Djokovic has proven that after 2011 he can't usurp King Rafa's throne unless Rafa is out of the tour for an extended period.

Another point is that once Murray is back in shape he will take more points away from Djokovic than from Rafa. As long as Nadal continues his clay dominance it's tough not to see him as #1.
