I had a feeling that Nadal will win Australian Open this year. It will be great if he wins all 4 slams this year and shock Federer. Do you all think it wil happen?

knowledgeable tennis fans know that nadal's worst surface is hard courts. these should play a bit slower than us open, but not as slow as the old rebound ace. then again, has anyone seen this draw? it's a dream for nadal; he should make it to murray and quite possibly the final.

That is why I smell an upset. I see Nadal falling on the ground showing his ass on his final point beating Federer in the finals. Guys, get ready for a real upset! I got a feeling that this will be Nadal's year!

He played like complete garbage in Chennai. Unless he's injured, there's no excuse to get a breadstick and a bagel.

it is a long shot for nadal to win the AO this year... he needs big serve to win it... federer is still the favorite....

Roddick's lurking in the quaterfinals...just when everyone thinks its gonna be an easy match for nadal...Roddick will strike!!...but seriously I think Roddick will give Nadal a run for his money...

The new surface is I slower and the ball bounces higher. Therefore Nadal's massive topspin will be a Federer killer. Australian Open may be hardcourt but a slower and much bouncier one. Guys, get ready for an upset.... Don't say I didn't warn you all!

no mate, he will not. it does not suit him, too many best of 5s in too short period of time on the surface which is punishing with all his previous problems, having in mind his pretty bad results in last several aussies, Id give him 1%/

You have a point but on the othet hand the thing that bothers fed more is wind and ball bounce, not height of it but on clay it can bouce awkwardly and here it has a good predictable bounce. Its no match sorry. You got a point if we are talking theory, in practice aint gonna happen .

Anything's possible with this kid. If he's on, healthy, and confident, he can take anybody. He's got the fitness to last, but that is going to get called into question after getting destroyed by Youzhny. If it was a fitness issue, then he's got no shot at the AO. I wish him well, though. He's a dark horse in any tourney.

Brief aside: I just read on ATP that Tsonga and Gasquet beat the Bryans? WTF?

I remember some time ago, Chela and Gonzalez beat the thrid ranked doubles team or sumn, but this is even more surprising. The Bryans arent invincible, but Gasquet and Tsonga(credit goes to them)? Even Federer and Allegro lost to the Bryans...

Umm... unless you are blind or something, the ball bounces nowhere near as high as it did when the AO was Rebound Ace. The ball here is slow, but it bounces around the average height of a hardcourt (which isn't too high). It's comparable to Miami or Montreal. It's still hardcourt though, and when we mean "slow", the ball is actually still pretty darn fast when you compare it to clay.

Also they are using a heavy ball, which is NOT going to help Nadal at all. He needs all the help he can get to generate pace. We saw what happens on a clay court if he doesn't have enough court speed to help him (Hamburg).

Chennai's surface isn't the same as Australian Open's. So, no comparison there!

Now you're being too generous to Nadal. Chennai isn't exactly like the Australian Open, but it is still a hardcourt. You should not get 0 and 1ed by a player you should routinely beat, no matter the circumstances.

He may have to go through a few 5 setters which could exhaust him - but it would be fantastic if he could

People here are just real... It's stupid to say he will win all slams cause that even the greatest couldn’t achieve.
Based on his games in ’08 and injuries it will be good for him to save his FO title, but I highly doubt it. :D

I don't get to vote but if I had, I would say Nadal takes only the French. I give Federer the AO and Wimby. The USO is a toss-up which does not include Nadal in the picture.

My computer is playing games with me. The above poll is supposed to close on 12-17-2008 at 11:07 pm. Huh? It also states that I already voted and this is the first time I have seen the poll. Oh, well. Computer 1; me 0.

Wrong:
18: only win FO
10: win both FO and Wim Open

You forgot the option where he wont even win the french.
Only now both of the options where he'll win the french have more votes than not winning anything(incl french).

Isn't the last choice on the list "he will not win any slams [which means no French]"?

Yes.
At some point this option(wont win the french) had more voters than all other options combined.
Thats what i was talking about, thats what seestern failed didnt get.

Nadal's massive topspin kills

Many of you may have forgotten that Nadal's massive topspin is the most massive and insane the game has ever seen. Noone in the history of the game has ever created such incredible topspin with so much pace. If weren't for Federer, Nadal would have been number 1 for the past 3 years. If that ever happened, it would have annoyed all of you!

If there was no Federer, we would all be Nadal fans... ;)

it's a coupla hours from nadal tsonga but i'll say that if nadal gets to the final and somehow wins, the pressure on federer going into wimbledon with no slams compared to nadal's 2 will be huge.

He will win as long as he wins Tsonga under 3.5 hours. The only problem is his bloody fitness, and if he can manage that properly i can see him doing even better than last year.

OK guys, You were right and I was wrong. Tsonga was way too good today, just way too good for Nadal. Maybe Nadal still has a chance to win the next 3 slams?
