Federer has better volleys of course. Nadal better forehand for clay, but for the faster surfaces I would choose Federer. If we are talking about them.

Can't understand the idea that Nadal has a better FH (overall). If His Humbleness has the better forehand, backhand, return, movement, mentality, stamina, volley, overhead, dropshot, what is then left for Federer to keep matches close let alone win anything? Just the serve? LOL given that Nadal owns Karlovic, Isner, Raonic, Anderson etc.
Well, this is what Federer fans also like to write-that Federer is better than Nadal at almost all of this. I also wonder how Nadal ever beat him.

Players are generally a little more than a sum of their component parts, but since you asked:

Rafa's just about as deadly at the net, but Fed has slightly better instincts for getting there, so edge to Fed.
I can't decide on forehand -- kind of a draw to me.

Forehand clearly depends on bounce... in earlier eras Federer would have a bigger advantage, but actual 00s conditions the remaining advantage was more than covered by Nadal's better backhand. I have to acknowledge Nadal's peak ground game was better overall.

At net, I think it's improvisation that separates them. Nadal is rock solid on textbook volleys but not so comfortable making fancy reflexive gets. Federer has an aptitude for those that's not seen much in today's landscape.

It's more than just an edge. Nadal is a capable volleyer, but he is up there less often. He plays the net when it is safe, that is probably why some people overrate his volleying abilities a bit. Federer goes forward every chance he gets, and finds himself in more difficult positions there.

I agree with the Federer part of that equation, though I think you may underrate Rafa's instinct for when to approach, and his athleticism and touch once there...so, I'd still take Fed's overall net game. Still, overall we agree.

Better forehand, better volley, better backhand, better Slam record.

So better everything I guess.
You forgot better serve, better personality, better modesty, better humility, better smash, better fitness, better mental strength, better human, better morality, better fishing, better poker, better overcoming of injury. Why do you hate Bull so much?

Nadal's forehand better on clay, Fed's everywhere else. Tiniest of margins and it depends who they're playing against but Fed has the edge overall.

Nadal is about as good as it gets (at least on today's tour) at putting away the ball at the net. Probably better than Federer. But he generally only comes in to finish points. Federer's net game is more diverse and he uses it more as an active strategy. Taken as a whole, Federer is also better at volleys in general

I’m a Nadal fan but definitely think Federer has better forehand. Nadals can start dropping short and get punished but that doesn’t happen with feds. I would say even on volleys.

Nadal is stronger mentally and physically, but not by much. Fed is better with all the tennis strokes, except the backhand

Don't agree. Nadal is physically weaker than Federer based on their level of activity on the tour. Nadal's been out with injury for long periods including a 10 month absence he took from mid 2012 to early 2013 which shows he's physically weaker than Federer and can't deal with the day to day grind nearly as well as Federer can. Federer is robust and never quits a match. Nadal quits mid-match too many times. Weaker guy.

Nadal demanding less hardcourts because they hurt his knees. LOL! Definitely not physically one of the stronger guys on tour. But definitely the biggest whiner.

Forehands are about the same, they work very differently and have different strengths and weaknesses.

But I never got that stuff about Nadal being a better volleyer. Just because McEnroe spewed that once or something? I mean, I don't think Fed's a perfect volleyer but he goes for far more difficult volleys and hits them very well under pressure too. Nadal does volley pretty well, but rarely goes out of his way to volley. With out of his way I mean he doesn't force netplay into his point construction like Fed does and Fed's shorter groundstroke mechanics are more suited for that kind of play as well.

There are multiple things Nadal does better than Fed, but volleying isn't one of them.
