Hybrid Question: Will Natural Gut break more easily when paired with a textured poly, such as Solinco Tour Bite?

Tour Bite, being as it is square shaped, seems like it would cut into the gut strings. Or is Natural Gut tougher then I give it credit for?

Yes it will, and smooth polys also let the mains slip more which is why they're more popular with gut. I'm assuming your talking about the gut in the mains.

Yes.

I might be forced back to VS Touch. My Focus Hex 1.18 crosses are slicing and dicing my Wilson 17g mains.

So is there a particular natural gut that will hold up to the punishment brought on by the Solinco Tour Bite, or any textured poly for that matter?

Logically, text poly cross should cut/notch gut mains more than smooth poly. But, I have had pretty good durability with bab tonic+ ballfeel 16G mains and signum pro tornado (textured poly). It plays well for 15+ hours and the gut breaks for me around 20 hours.

What does it matter?

The poly will long since be dead before the gut is about to break so the point is rather moot.

And if durability is an issue, go for a 16 gauge gut. Unless you're a Sampras wannabe swinging with a PS85, a 16 is going to be much more suitable in terms of playability.

And finally, Tour Bite also isn't that sharp edged. It's more rounded than having sharp edges.
