Will one half hitch hold on final cross knot?

Strung full bed of Ashaway monogut ZX 16 and broke the string while tying off the 2nd half hitch. I do not want to restring the crosses again. So, will the one half hitch hold with this very soft string? Thanks for your opinions.

I have had this happen with Babolat Origin and one of the polyolefin ribbon strings I think it was Isospeed. In each case the single half hitch held fine. I made a record in my notes that I'd owe the customer a stringing if it slipped. Didn't.

Yes it will. Dab some nail polish or super glue on the HH knot. Next time, don't pull so hard on the ZX since it tends to break on sharp turns.

Why are you using a half hitch knot?
I have used half hitch knots for 5 years and over 100 string jobs without any issues. I recently strung a few racquets with the ZX because of the arm friendly qualities and I pulled to tight on the second hitch. Lesson learned.

Not saying it would or would not work, but both of the standard knots (Parnell and pro) are so much easier to tighten by hand and produce a much cleaner look.

Maybe. There is a good chance it will hold. Sorta kinda. Probably as good as a DHH anyway.

Use Pro Wilson knot instead

I hear you on the monogut snapping. Half hitch should be fine. It always makes me nervous when I'm cinching up the half hitch on the monogut. Always feel like it's going to break.

I suspect I string ZX at least once a week, maybe more some weeks. This has been my "tempo" of stringing ZX for the last 2-3 yrs. I string a D1 female's rackets with Ash Kev x ZX as well. No breaks at knots. Interestingly ZX will break sometimes along the side halfway into the stringbed. This has happened a couple of times with less than 5 minutes on the court with a new stringbed. I try and keep 6-7 rackets strung for her just in case. Stringing her rackets in the future: 1. create a logbook 2. Engrave an ID number on each racket 3. more closely inspect each racket for questionable grommets 4. Reduce or eliminate ZX manual prestretch. If the ZX holds up they usually last her about 3 weeks before the Ashaway Kevlar saws through.

With ZX I use a traditional starting know for the cross and a moderately cinched DHH for tie off. I have had some issues with other knots using ZX.
