Will Roger Federer recover mentally when he lost in the Wimbledon final 2019 against Novak Djokovic?

What does it matter how he feels? It's completely irrelevant. People have irrational feelings all the time. Even people that a good at what they do.

And interesting that you bring up coaches. Because that argument also works against what you are trying to argue. If professional tennis players are the best at judging their own game then why do any of them have coaches?

Good question. Because I know myself best but I don't know my opponents. My coach tells me that.

Novak Djokovic ain't no GOAT mate. He was lucky to win this year's Wimbledon, being two match points down against a man about to turn 38. Were he the GOAT, he would've beaten such a man in straights.

1983 ... that's not a good argument. If he was good enough to get to the final, beating Nadal on the way, age shouldn't be a factor.

It's a good argument in that, were Novak Djokovic the GOAT (as several of his fanatics claim), he should have dispatched a near-38 year old with ease, no matter how well that man was playing - given the six year age advantage enjoyed by Nole.

Connors thrashed Rosewall in the 1974 Wimbledon final. Why couldn't Novak Djokovic do the same to Fed?

Oh wait - it's because he was lucky to win.

I think Federer might be done. I don't see him going through Tsitsipas and Medvedev back to back or going through Thiem and Zverev back to back or going through Djokovic and Nadal back to back. And that's what it's going to take to win a Grand Slam these days. He doesn't have the youth, the wheels or the reserves to fight for a sustained period. He can beat one but can't beat 2 high level young players. It's very taxing for him at this stage. I think 38 just might be the very limit of a tennis player's abilities/chances of winning a Grand Slam. Wimbledon 2019 might've been his final shot. I could be completely wrong but at nearly 39 next season when Wimbledon comes about...I don't think even the biggest Federer fans can see Federer winning.

Good points (y) I'm not very technical so I'll just have to depend on fellow Djokovic fans to counter.

Yeah... you're right.

Roger is an old man invalid. Barely walks. Even his twins can beat him. What's the ATP coming to?

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.

(I genuinely expected a better response from you, @UnderratedSlam. Other than your anti-Fed bias, you're a decent poster)
Whoever said I was witty?

I am the lowest form of poster, the sarcastic anti-Fed-bias poster. Right?

Yet despite being a very low form of poster, I am indeed a very decent poster. Nay, a brilliant poster.

Cheesy unwitty gag coming up...

Federer this time is done, IMO. Even if he wins a slam AO 2018 style, it still won't feel the same as, in this case, he will not have proven anything wrong.
What does Fed have to do? Win a Slam by beating Djokovic? He'd be the oldest Slam champ if he wins any in the future I think. Pretty impressive he is still a contender at the very least.

At this point he'd take anything, especially now that the race is heating up as Nadal is closer than ever.

Federer is done. I am certain of that.

I wouldn't be surprised if Fed lost to a mug next year at Wimb.

Or Nadal.

I don't want another AO 2018 honestly.

Yeah, an old player having conditioning issues? Madness, I tell you.
Yes he is an old man. Yet why do you and the crew demand that everyone pay fealty to the fed is goat gods when he turned old after 2007 and had no business being out on the courts after 2007. Which is it fed goat? Or fed choker and overrated?

So a coach never gives an assessment of the player he's coaching and if he did then that would be disrespectful. Got it...

You are taking things too far and out of context. I never said the coach does not know. All I said is that the player is a better judge of himself.

It's like watching porn and claiming you know better how the performers are feeling.

You are right, these are 2 major possibilities. In my opinion competition significantly improved and although Federer plays better his results are worse. This is what I believe to be the case. That Federer plays better I believe based on his statements and my personal assessment. However, this needs to be proved as hypothesis that Federer declined needs to be proved as well. So the main issue is how to asses the field. The only system I know that compares players of different eras is ELO system.
No, you don’t believe any of that.

Judging yourself and knowing how you feel are not the same thing. Why are you trying to make them the same thing?

Maybe I misunderstood or perhaps I didn't express it clearly, sorry! The coach can provide inputs but the player knows how he's feeling when he's hitting his forehand, for example. You know what I mean?

Did not know you were such a fan of PETE that you commit his words to heart.
I commit them to a tint folder in a slightly less tiny sub-section of a great big folder on my laptop called TENNIS.

If that's my heart, then I must be a robot-computer...

Hence 100% accurate.

Which I am.

Hence you're arguing with a perfect cyborg-computer thing.

Never argue with a perfect cyborg-computer thing. It's as futile as trying to beat Kasparov in chess.

You're a good poster, but I don't think your answer is honest. Like other Fed Fans, you will enjoy any Fed's triumph on GS tournaments (no matter if he won over Djokovic/Nadal or no) as long as Fed earns GS title in the future.

So all this bs since december 2007 meant nothing? Best news i have heard all day! Promise we will never hear again how great Federer is when he wins and how washed up and ****ty he is when he loses. Thank you! Much appreciated!

2007 was a different time. Back then, based on previous history, it seemed normal for a player to suffer a slight stop after 26 since it had happened to Pete, Mac, Wilander and others. No one had the retrospective knowledge of today.

Of course, it doesn't mean he was old. He just suffered a slight drop in level in 2008. Which is not the equivalent of being old.
