Will Safina Ever Win A Major?

Safina implodes again... I can only wonder how much longer she can maintain her ranking at #1, and if she will ever win a major. I suppose that if I was to pick a major for her to win, it would definitely be the French Open. What do you guys think?

Unless she fixes her serve, fixes her overall game and fires her coach, she will never win a Slam. I think after she loses her #1 ranking, it will be all downhill from there.

Well unless Henin comes back,FO will still remain pretty open in the next few years and also given that IMO her best surface is clay I'd say if she wins a slam it will be there.

I agree, she has got to change her game if she wants to win a slam.

Will any of Jankovic, Safina, or Dementieva win a slam? I am going to guess no for all 3 which speaks poorly to the womens game given that they are 3 of the most prominent players in the game today. Then again who is going to win next years French. If Kim is really back in form that should be hers probably. Serena shouldnt win there again (though given the current womens game nothing should amaze), and Venus will be lucky to even get past the 3rd round of the French again. However if Kim doesnt win it, and Justine doesnt come back, maybe one of those would have to win it. Or maybe Kuznetsova again, or maybe even Serena again as bad as her clay court game has gotten. Is Azarenka really slam material in the near future or even ever, is Wozniacki? Womens tennis is a mess but the long time slamless seem more likely than ever to stay slamless.

Just the fact Kuznetsova is a RG champion simply blows my mind to pieces. It just goes to show you how pathetic the WTA Clay Courters really are.

Exactly. Yet I was glad to see her win if the alternative was a Serena on her worst surface by far way past her prime on that particular surface. Still a pretty weak best of the worst sort of thing considering she is clearly a hard court specialist.

The sad thing is if Kuznetsova would of lost vs Serena, Serena would of blow off both Stosur and Safina to win the RG and she's not exactly Clay material: losing to Zarapolova (sp?) and Schnyder in Rome and Madrid respectively. But then again this is Serena tanking in non GS events as usual.

That's a tad harsh imo, Kuz was runner up at RG to Henin in 06 afterall. She's had some decent clay results and rarely been a dissapointment at RG (since 04 she's only lost to eventual finalists there)

Probably not. Just look at Dementieva, being around for long time, semis/finals of all four slams but doesn't look like winning one anytime soon. Actually Dementieva is better, she beat Safina to win the olympic gold.
