Will the Federer, Nadal, Djokovic fan bases make peace down the road?

We have all been lucky to be in the era of 3 of the absolute best players of all time. By the time they are finished they could arguably be the 3 greatest players of the Open Era. Yet the fan bases of all 3 are constantly at war. It is amazing the number of Federer vs Nadal, Nadal vs Djokovic, and Federer vs Djokovic fan wars mostly with belittling of the other and mud slinging at the opposing player and their fans. Will there be a time in a few years down the road when each is nearing the end (Rafa or Fed maybe even retired by then) where there will be a calm, and a more just genuine appreciation of all 3 great champions rather than the fan flaming?

No, we can never get along. I love all 3 players' tennis and I am glad that each of them play tennis.

I respect Nadal because he is the greatest tennis prodigy IMO and we will not see a player like him for a while; his athleticism, will and utter dominance of a surface is mind blowing. I really love this guys' tennis when he plays his agressive best. His patience on clay and ability to construct long rallies on clay is on another level than his peers. His forehand is a thing of beauty.

I respect Djokovic because he was in the shadow of Fedal and faced possibly the hardest rivals for his early to mid 20s. He broke the party in 2011 and took the tour by shock. He made tennis more intersting in 2011 due to breaking the duopoly and finally realizing his potential. I also respect his dedication to playing lots of tournaments and trying his best always.

Federer is the single greatest tennis professional I have seen due to his consistency and facing his rivals always and never backing down. He keeps coming back and making changes in his game which shows he still has the fire and ambition. His tough losses have made me appreciate his wins even more and though he may never win#18, its awesome still seeing him make GS finals and playing as well as he has despite his age. I also like that he, don't flame me for this: doesn't take as many MTO's as his rivals and doesn't stall players before serving.

Now for the Nadal and Djokovic fan(atics), I don't like them. We will never get along and that's fine.

I get along realllllll well with the Djoker fans, except for that banned Chico banana. The Feddy phants.........not so much. Some of them are cool, I have to say, like The Viv, cc0, etc:D

Yes. When they are all irrelevant :D

All of the fanbases are as bad as each other - the worst Nadalunatics and Fedenthusiasts (and even some Djoker fanatics) are amusing, but there are a lot of great fans too, it's just that no one cares about them on these boards.
Perhaps all 3 bases will join forces to defend these great players in 20-30 years time, when they get laughed at by the next generation of fans (who support the new dominant player(s))

You are expecting too much. There will never be appreciation for other fans' favorites and that is the problem. There are also many great respectful fans of each player, but it seems that always those bad ones stand out.
And there is no point in saying this fan base or that fan base started the argues. If the other two ignored the one that started it, this stuff would have never happened, so it is all fan bases' fault.

If Federer fixes his H2H, wins Olympics, and gets a few strong-era slams under his belt, I can see a balanced stalemate-based parity truce emerging in the blogosphere.

If we want things to get better, we should go to the core of problem - we should go back in time, way back, somewhere in 2004. To locate index case - first fan group that began taking their fav and themselves too seriously. First fan group that started teaching others how to (miss)behave in public, how to be smug, and how to classify titles, eras, achievements, to teach how should idolatry be encouraged, grown, cherished.
When we do that, we should first thank them cause they've made us (in a way), and ask them as most wise of all - how to stop this lunacy and finally get along in peace and harmony ?

When you all have kids, you'll realize there's more to life than tennis. Or reach a mature age of 28, whichever come first. If you are a passionate fan (crying when your team/player loses) after these events have occurred, then you're a loser.

This kind of behaviour has been going on for much longer than that - probably since the 80s or 90s, just that there were no social media platforms to voice and share opinions as easily. But it is too easy to play the blame game and say 'one group of people started it', if everyone genuinely wants to "get along" someone will inevitably need to step up and be the bigger person (or bigger group, if you will).

Well sure, as soon as Djokovic2011 has several seats.

Would you love Ultron in the rain? Would you love Ultron on a train?

I prefer him in a box, I prefer him with a fox
th
, I prefer him here or there, I prefer him everywhere (RG too).

I prefer him on a train, I prefer him on Roland Garros during rain, and I prefer him even if he causes Fed fans pain.

I think we could set a starting point in between 2004-2007 as valid one for having first net sport fanatics who were clashing with others through keyboard.

This is very true. I remember being ridiculed as unpatriotic in the 70's/80's for preferring Borg and Vilas instead of my countrymen Connors and McEnroe. I would then point out how happy I was when Ashe beat Jimbo in the Wimby'75 final and the idiots would change their narrative to something irrelevant like baseliners suck, etc.

It's been going on for years, it's just now that it has become indelible. Thank you Al Gore for inventing the Internet!:p

Dude, I know I've been trolling a bit recently in regard to Nadal (saying he's at his best today) but that wasn't meant to be an offensive thing towards you or other decent Nadal fans, just the super-trollish ones that constantly act like 2008 is the toughest year in tennis and every single year Federer won something is 'weak' just because he won.

I understand you are a very decent, flexible Nadal fan who is open to different opinions and I thought I'd just make this post detailing such.

I've also stopped the whole Nadal thing because it's become obvious the Djokovic fans are the problem now (not the good ones).

haha ! I know some of these characters, not all.

What about 90s C ? And of late, piratesofthecarribean ?

..
90's LSD is a Sampras fan. And for the most part, he seems like one of the only Sampras fans who hate Federer.

I kind of think it's hilarious how he talks up some of Federer's competition that beat Sampras, but when they lost/lose to Federer, they are mugs and horrible players.

Good to know :) you did a 180 I was like :o

Why can't we just be a fan of all three, hell, just be a TENNIS fan. Is there some law that says one can only be a fan, and support one player above all, that I missed? I'm just not a fan of fanbois, or <player>-****s. <- (yeah, that's offensive, it was meant to be, get over it)

The real fanbase rivalry which hopefully resolves soon is #Fedal. #Novak isn't popular enough to create a trifecta in that regard and doesn't deserve mentioning. I remember #Lendl (and so does everyone else). #GirlBye

#PTL #JC4Ever

Even if Djokovic only had 1 fan, when he goes over the 14 slam count (and possibly the 17 slam count) it won't really matter.

I really dont care about Fed or Djoko fanatics. I feel like I have distanced myself enough from tennis that I still enjoy the game a lot but dont get sad/emotional when my favourite players lose. I can easily get over any loss in like 5-15 mins. I have also accepted Nadal's place in history, which is clearly not going to be above Fed, and thats okay.
Because of this, I really dont riled up by these fanatics trying to entice others. Infact who annoy me the most are the obsessive Nadal fanatics.
