Will Tsonga or DelPo upset top 3 today ?

Will today start the end of the Djokovic and Murray domination ?
Good to see Nadal is playing well again and took down the modern GOAT again yesterday.
Should be an interesting year especially if there is a new champion at Indian Wells ...

[1] Novak Djokovic (SRB)
v
[8] Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA)

[3] Andy Murray (GBR)
v
[7] Juan Martin Del Potro (ARG)

Both have their best 'chances' to upset in a long time... I think* they'll both take them. It will be up to Andy and Novak to up their levels as they haven't had the best tournament so far (playing below their AO level).

Tsonga is worried about his knee and Juan Martin has the wrist issue, but they've been playing well and serving well (key part of their game) since the indoor season in Europe. I think Tsonga will be a more fun match due to the contrast in styles as Delpo can be a bit defensive sometimes.

* Speculation on my part as to the matches outcomes, not personal attacks on your chosen avatars.

Since Fed is out my other two players remaining are Djokovic and Del Potro. Would be nice if the gentle giant can win it all, I want him to keep rising and winning

I think Jo has a chance at an upset. He's been playing well this year, showing great grit, determination and mental strength. I didn't fully watch his match vs Raonic but from the little I saw he showed character being breaks down and coming back. Also didn't see his match vs Mardy, but snatching the match in two tiebreaks yet again showed he's being clutch. He looked great against Blake though, who played amazing tennis.

The fact that they play during the day will also be to Tsonga's advantage. Djokovic has won the last 7 times, so Jo is due for a win over him. He needs to keep his cool out there and hang with Djokovic in rallies until he ceases the moment. I think Jo's defense has improved quite a bit this year and we'll see what happens!

I'm afraid Murray - Delpo is gonna look like whenever Djokovic - Delpo square off and Murray being the better mover will just have the edge during rallies and eventually outlast him. Only way for Delpo, as I see it, is if he's serving big and avoid getting into long rallies. He needs to go for the kill.

Jo in 3.
Murray in 2.

I find it interesting EVERYONE is giving Tsonga no chance. It's times like these when someone is flying so under theradar that they have the gumption to just swing for the fences and cause the upset. We'll see if Tsonga comes out with this in mind today.

I doubt it, but only best of 3 helps.

Tsonga played Djoker so tough at the French last year and has beat him in the past in big matches (though mainly before Novak 2.0, though he was at least Novak 1.5 when Tsonga beat him at the 2010 AO). But, Novak has won the last 5 matches (last 7 if you discount a Tsonga win due to Novak withdrawing). Pattern is usually that Tsonga will have a good, competitive set against Novak, and then the other set will be fairly routine. That's what I'd expect today. I think Tsonga has the capability, but everything has to click, and I'm betting it doesn't.

I don't see Delpo doing any better against Murray, who leads 5-1, and is now himself Murray 2.0.

I'm with you bro, hope Delpo can upset Murray and then even Djokovic. About time he won a masters. Murray will probably win as usual but would make me happy if the big man slapped him down, and Murray has lost to much worse players so we shall see..

We saw. Wasn't pretty

Good. Djokovic is through, at least this means Fed will still cling onto #2.

sure Fed might cling to #2. But is it of any use? He has already withdrawn from miami and Murray only stands to gain points.

Second, I don't think Roger cares too much for being #2 or #3.

Tsonga was owned in every imaginable way today... strategy, execution, mental toughness, everything... by the end he could barely get his serve in or hit his groundstrokes in the court.

was like a different player against novak. not the guy who was trading winners with james blake last week or who won Marseille a few weeks ago.

wow

Delpo didn't disappoint!

Didn't drop a service game and gave Murray a breadstick in the final set for his efforts.

6-7, 6-3, 6-1

Well, the Tower of Tandil did his thing.

(And wow, is there a bunch of sand-throwing going on in that thread.)

Now it's a question of how much he's got left in the tank.

I didn't see the match ... did it take him three sets to topple our defending US Open Champion?
