Forgive me if this has been discussed before, but I could not find it.
After watching the match between Schiavone and Kuznetsova I feel that it's possible women to maintain play while competing in five serts. The 30 games played between them in the final set could have easily been 6-4; 6-4; 6-4 in the 3rd-5th set respectively.
The only problem I believe is if the women could maintain their play and fitness in 5 sets in the 7 round GrandSlams. I believe it would be hard until a year or two after 5 sets was introduced to women's pro tennis because the players have been playing 3 sets their entire lives, and to introduce this change would be difficult for them to adapt to.
Any thoughts...
