interesting thing happened as I was closing up my shop tonight . Couple of older ladies were batting the ball around on one of our courts and noticed she was playing with a black Wilson I’d never seen . So I went up to her and asked her what her racket was. She had no idea “ it’s my moms old racket “. So I asked her if I could hold it . Bounced a few balls and it felt like a 100 % fibreglass stick . So I love flexible frames so it peaked my interest , I asked how much would she sell it to me for ? She wasn’t comfortable talking monies so I said well if your mom would like to trade up with a newer Wilson I have a ton for her to trade ..poor thing it was like a deer in head lights look so . I introduced myself as one of the head pros . And we talked a bit more . She was nice .. so we left it at if your mom was interfered in getting a new frame I can give it to her for hers .. so we shall see.. I got tons of 2015/16/ 17 Wilson pro staff s everywhere demos mostly .
In any event I haven’t stopped thinking about this obviously recreational style Wilson frame high beam series . Same mild as the aggressor. The same mold that I used to make fun of kids playing with back in the early 90’s all the JV Tennis kids had them .. I Mean it was a Kmart racket for gods sakes ...but as I’ve grown older I have to play with really really flexible Frames like in the Low 40’s is the highest I can use ..
the racket I saw tonight was called a Wilson 95 hornet .. hornet ?? Yes .. hornet ... like prince hornet ? Yep like that ..
it’s the same mold as the aggressor but it’s really flexy from just me bumping the balls it’s in the 40 s 30’s ra range . Now all I gotta do is try and find one !!
Funny the frames I used to make fun of people play with like the Head club pro ( my go to stick for years now) and now possibly again with Wilson’s cheapo high beam series k mart rackets ! I loved that thing ! I’ve never actually hit with an aggressor before but I have bumped it around and it felt soft but no where near as soft as this Wilson 95 sq hornet high beam stick ! I want one! Anyone out there ever seen one? ( I hadn’t ever !! It probably sold for 29.99 back in 1991 . For the rec player , no doubt . But it was probably 11 oz give or take
8 to 10 pts head light .. perfect for my personal specs and that ridiculously low Ra so it seemed is what got me to here ..
This thing would be so far off the spectrum so I’d be floored if anyone has seen one let alone played with one ? Big jump here!! Anyone ever heard of the Wilson high beam ( widebody) 95 sq HORNET?? Like ever ????
