Wilson Blade 16x19 V6 Re-issue

back during my blade days i took it for a whirl. i thought it was very similar to the countervail. fwiw, i actually liked the countervail version better than the v7.

im just one man though, and ive seen other reviews on here with a very different take.

Strange as it may sound on TTW, I also preferred the Countervail version to the V7, which is why I am considering giving this one a try. It was a more powerful racquet than the V7.
Nostalgia plays a role as well, because I bought my Countervail Blades while at the Miami Open, unfortunately I sold them.

yeah, i liked the v7 ok, but ultimately it was too floppy and didnt have enough pop. i played better with the countervail.

the biggest difference (to me) between the v6 and the countervail was the grip. the v6 has the v7 grip, that feels more squishy and is wider at the top (twss?). i prefer the countervail grip, but otherwise i found the frames to be pretty similar.

I am pretty sure it was the Tennis Warehouse tent at the Miami Open that I bought the originals. It was a big tent. When you say the "the v7 grip, that feels more squishy", are you referring to the grip or pallet or...? Thanks for taking the time to answer these things BTW.

good question. is the v7 pallet actually shaped differently? i havent ever taken the grip off. all i know is that the v6 has the same thing the v7 has.

But for sure, the power difference was noticed by both of us between the Countervail version and the V7. I am assuming the V8 is even less powered than both of the previous versions?

v8 is way more powerful than the v7 if you ask me - at least for the 16x19
I tried it this winter and kept overhitting at first, so there is either more pop or higher launch angle. Also many others stating it felt more crisp and lively

i never hit with the v8. ordered one, took one look at the paint, and shipped it back. not my cup o’ tea

Funny… I think the V8 is the best looking frame on the market…
But to answer OP question, there is a good YouTube by AC Tennis discussing that exact frame against the V7 and V8.
He settles on that one being the most powerful I believe. But all 3 close enough to be relatively interchangeable.

Thanks for that You Tube tip, it was a good watch.

I moved to the re- release v6.0 and I find it a pretty well-rounded frame. Good power, spin and comfort, much better than the V7's I tried. Also easy on my tender shoulder with every string I have tried so far, including a full poly bed.

Probs Tennis Plaza. They always had a big presence in Miami…. Maybe still do. Hopefully will find out this year

I haven’t been since they moved out of Chandon park.
Yeah, the new setting isn’t the same, although I was only there for a day the first year. I’m going to try it this year, just because once you are court side on the outside courts, it’s still pretty great. The area? Not so much. Crandon was just so cool, albeit a hassle for parking even paying the premium for ‘better’ parking.

I have both the V8 16x19 and the S version. The S is too light for me. The 16x19 is also too light and plays much better with lead. Once it has a little more mass it transforms the racquet. Personally, I hated Countervail, and would say this has more feel.

The v6 Blade 98L (no countervail) is a sleeper option IMO. It's lighter so you can weight it to your preferred mass and balance with great feedback. It may be close to a pro-stock hairpin for the masses... at least spec-wise.

I bought one of these Wilson Blade v6 16x19, I didn't like it. I strung it twice with two different tensions, both polyester.
The racquet is in my closet since then :(

Wilson is going to have a tough time topping the V8 paint job. One of the most striking paint jobs ever IMO and took the Blade from a homely series of racquets to best looking. Similar with the current Clash being an immense improvement visually compared to the first version. Ultra too for that matter. They currently have the best looking stable of rackets of all the brands.

+1 on that. Been enjoying this frame lately and will continue to experiment with different set ups (currently really liking a Pacific Hybrid - Powerline & Polyforce - I stumbled upon.) That said, last night and from who knows where, I had a sudden vision of the old gold/black Blade... So. Yep. Going to have to take that out for a whirl now too. :)

i just switched to the v6 from the v8 and love it. had to add quite a bit of weight to the handle as it is only around 3pts headlight in stock form.

i didn't hate the v8, it's extremely plush but ultimately i felt that it was really lacking in power and responsiveness. the v6 is significantly stiffer but doesn't seem to bother my elbow. i switched to the v8 from the yonex ezone + vcore due to elbow pain.

when i demoed the original v6 w/cv i thought it was a bit muted but not outrageously so. the v6 w/o cv definitely feels direct and responsive.

This version was very direct feeling racquet and I had to adjust my string tension accordingly. I am really loving the Head Gravity MP Auxetic and I am going to stay with this.
