I went through 2 rounds of customization on Wilson Blade V8 98 16x19 . The stock version was nice but I'm used to playing with heavier racquets and found the stock Blade to lack the stability I prefer. Especially on volleys and handling heavier balls.
So I got a matched pair of blades from tennis warehouse. 310.4 and 309.8 grams respectively unstrung. Customized them both by adding putty escape door of the handle to bringing them both to 317.3 unstrung.
With a strings, the matched Blades came to 335g with a balance of 32.5 cm. Same SW of the stock Blade Super whippy yet very solid on volleys after the customization with the weight in the handle.
Pros of the 335g Blades:
* awesome topspin forehands
* great for volleys
* decent control
Cons:
* Not great on my 2HB which are flatter
* A little weak when driving forehands with a flatter trajectory
* First serves
Basically every flat, driving shot felt a little noodly.
My solution was adding 5 more grams of weight split between 3 and 9. The balance is 32.7 cm now. Just a tad less headlight. Now it seems way more solid on flatter strokes. Still surprisingly whippy at 340g static weight. Definitely whippier than my old Ezone Tours which were a tad bit heavier. Will have to see how it plays in a match.
